As I've said many times now, my repair room at Expo does not happen without the help of many friends. I want to publicly thank everyone who helped with load-in, load-out, moving stuff, stocking stuff, bringing stuff, buying stuff, and stuffing stuff. With special thanks to...

If I miss someone, it’s not because I don't appreciate what you did, I'm just slightly on the verge of crazy, and just forgot.

As for the Farewell, I'm told I'm not allowed back next year, so see everyone at one of the other great shows across the country.

Well, what I know goes like this…

I heard throughout the weekend from some friends that Mike told them he wasn't allowing me back next year. 'Whatever' was basically my thought, if he’s got something to say, he knows where to find me. Didn't hear a thing from him, so I called him on my way home from Expo on Monday. Got hung up on. Tried again thinking it was possibly a dropped call, got yelled at and hung up on again. Figured I’d give it a bit of time for him to call me back, nothing. No worries on my end, there’s lots more shows across the country that are much more enjoyable. Can't say I won’t miss it, but I'll live.

If it was the soda, or something the hotel wasn't happy about, I would have heard about it IMMEDIATELY, as in years past.

I know Mike's probably pretty unhappy with the game and vendor turnout this year, but even he has to know by now, that he’s the entire reason attendees, game bringers, and vendors want nothing to do with Expo any more. You can’t scream and yell at people and expect them to feel warm and fuzzy about you.

I don't want to see this be a negative bash Mike thread. Most of my post is thanking all the great people that help out, more than just me and my booth, but the entire show.

Mike's not a bad guy, outside of Expo I'd consider him a friend. I like no-nonsense folks that don't beat around the bush and he's certainly that. It's just at, around, and about Expo, he's extremely difficult and mostly abusive.

    Quoted from hank527:

    Why would he do this?

Yeah, I really don't know. I posted what I know and don't want to get into speculation, when I just don't know.

Like I said, maybe just a bad show for him and it is what it is.

The first time I called I asked if he had a minute, he said he was driving in Chicago and to be quick. I told him I heard he wasn't allowing me back next year, and I wanted to hear it from him, and why. That's when he hung up the first time. The second time, I didn't get a chance to say anything.

    Quoted from MrBally:

I recall you weren't planning on coming to Expo (based on your show schedule posted early this year) and Mike asked you to come to Expo; right here on Pinside. Why would he change his mind? Maybe there's more to the situation.

This is our texts after the hang ups, relating to my not planning on doing Expo because of the burglaries on my property...

Well crap. I can't go TPF. I work MGC weekend. You aren't coming to Expo? When the heck am I supposed to get my Taro and part selling fix? Sheesh.

I could always swing by when near Muskego, and get you some Taro hugs. I could also bring some parts along and set up the tablet if you really need a selling fix.

Really not a fan of personal texts on a public forum, he has really taken care of you over the years at expo.

Yeah, I agree, but with the previous thread brought up, and in the interest of full disclosure, I thought it important.

And I have taken care of him over the years as well.

    Quoted from mikepin:

This is by far NOT the correct story .. EVERY Year ROb says hes not comming back? He did call me when I was driving into Chicago traffic in rental truck you are NOT allowed on phone in city I dont have blue tooth I told him that I could not talk when I was stopped in traffic I text him Six months ago or so he said he was not comming to expo You can see his schedule then . You guys might remember the post on here.. I NEVER told him he was banned or not coming back . I did tell a few people messing with him knowing they would tell him . This whole thing is blown out of proportions MOST people I talk to say the vendor hall was great Yes we lost a few and gained a few there were ALOT of great gamesin Vendor hall although SOME vendors refused to set on free play The game hall was light as we had 45 games from JOHN PEDERSON last year Overall PINBALL EXPO still offers the most variety of any show all around YES not the most games but has much more to offer.. many other show do have more games THats not all that makes a good show I dont believe ANY show gives ROB a seperate room to do what ever he wants 24x7 as I do?? Again I never told him he was banned and YES I cut him off as I was driving in traffic

Shows that have me in a separate room and treat me like a valued contributor to the show year after year...

    Texas Pinball Festival
    Pin-a-GoGo
    Midwest Gaming Classic
    Houston Arcade Expo

Rob tells you he's not doing the show every year, immediately after you yell at him at the top of your lungs in front of customers, colleagues, and friends. I've told you over and over again, I'm not your three year old child, don't yell at me. Of course I tell you I'm not doing the show again, how could I do anything else? Eventually we both calm down and work things out, but it's grating, abusive, and unnecessary.

I'm at the point I don't care anymore. If you don't want me there, I don't care, I won't go. If I hear from others you don't want me there, what am I supposed to think? I called you to get it directly from you, got no answer and more screaming, and then "game playing". I waited a couple of days for a return phone call. What more should I have done? I'm not going to chase after you to get abused over and over, sorry.

...GEE lets talk about the holes put in the walls a few years ago by using PUSH pins to hold things up .. GEE I got him out of paying the 600.00 the hotel wanted to fix it... AND they still allowed him back .. And besides ROB gets a deal like no other for his space

To be factually correct; the push pin fine was $1000. You got it reduced to $500, which I paid. I didn't have to, the contract with the hotel was with you, not me. I never signed anything saying I wouldn't put pins in the wall. Didn't know it wasn't allowed. I still paid the ridiculous fine because it was my doing, and felt it my responsibility.

    Quoted from goatdan:

...My philosophy is that I know all of that stuff, and my goal is to make it so that no one else at the show knows about much of the crap that we put up with. The average attendee shouldn't know if the hotel's accountant and I are in a tiff about propping open doors, that I had to shut down sales of something for not being allowed at the show, or whatever. In fact, the majority of that I'd like to handle without anyone else worrying about it - I want the people at our show to focus on sharing their passions and sharing in the passion of others for gaming...

    Quoted from Pintucky:

A lot has already been said on this thread about the 'banned or not banned' deal, so I just want to say this:
There ain't nobody nicer, kinder, gentle(r), and polite(r) than Rob. He was at my home several times last year working on a pin for me and had it been someone else, I think they would have exploded and thrown my pin in the river because how it would be 'fixed' and then it would 'unfix' itself in minutes! He had a lot of patience and I just can't imagine anyone telling him he is not welcome to come back ANYWHERE!
Rob, you are the greatest! (Well . . . next to LTG.) Taro, you didn't say much to me. WTF?
Rob, our old Yellow Lab (Murel) died a few months after you left. A sad day . . . as I'm sure you can understand. He was SO sick those last few weeks, but on his last night, he ambled over to my bed, as was his habit, to tell me 'Good Night', and I patted his head like I always did and then he ambled back over to his bed. Every night, he did this ritual at 10:30. He looked at me for a much longer time that night as if he was trying to tell me something. I can still see those big brown eyes sending 'love' to me. He died during the night. He's buried out in the back yard with a head stone.
Be safe in your travels. A LOT of people rely on you, and you make things 'glow' (literally!) when you are with people. It hurt me to know you went through this ordeal.
    Mike in Kentucky

Very sorry to hear about Murel, Mike. They are such perfect companions, truly man's best friend, but they just don't live long enough.

Thank you for the kind words.

Rob you are welcome at the Ann Arbor pinball show too (may 13-15, 2016).

    Thanks guys, greatly appreciated!

I think Pintasic is just too far for me. I don't get to the east coast much, and a trip to MA almost doubles my time on the road compared to Pittsburgh. Doubling the time on the road, doubles my costs to get there, just not feasible.

The Ann Arbor show I could see doing, but this year is a week before Pin-a-GoGo. I'll already be in California then. I generally have a pretty busy schedule in California with a lot of clients and friends to visit.

I would absolutely love to do every show I could, so certainly won't rule any out, and greatly appreciate the invites.
