Quoted from GRB1959:

Sean,
Yeah, CJ is not as easy to collect as some would have you believe. I have only collected CJ a handful of times in the 3+ years that I have owned my TFTC and it is pretty cool to watch.
The geometry on shooting the RIP scoop makes it a tougher than expected shot from either of the two bottom flippers. I actually find it easier to shoot the RIP scoop from the upper right flipper so from the lower flippers I shoot the 'Extra Ball' lane on the upper right hand side and then the VUK drops the ball to the upper right flipper for a nice shot at the RIP scoop.
Gord

This is the approach I have been taking...but it doesn't seem to be working for me. The wife, on the other hand, has hit crypt jam at least a dozen times.

Quoted from Cyrus:

Man, don't feel bad. I've had mine almost two years and have not hit it either!!!! lol

I feel better now

That is impressive, she's good!

I hate the service pegs on data east. I got the mantis ones which were an upgrade but I much more preferred the slide rails on Simpson’s. I recently got some side art for tftc, and from a previous experience it’s easier to balance the play field with service rails like stern White star or Sam.

Long and short is I installed these SAM rails on my game today. So far so good, they seem slightly uneven so I might add a little furniture slider on one side. Already way better than the original

When I was setting down the play-field the right side seemed like it carried more weight. Added some leftover ikea furniture pads on one side. Where the left leg sits on the lockdown bar. Its good now!

I've got the same setup on mine. Works like a charm. Well done!

Where did you get the rails? One thing that takes away from this game is the manhandling to get the damn PF up and those pegs (mine only had one) are useless.

#3309 5 years ago

I like a lot of things data east did more than Bally, but those pegs are the worst part of a de game.

#3310 5 years ago

I bought the SAM kit from pinball life. I am by no means handy and did it in around an hour.

Forgot to ask....whats your side art look like?

#3312 5 years ago

I haven't installed it as I'll need help from my wife and the space between the play field and cabinet is very tight. Might need those plastic side protector things.

attached a photo of what they will look like

I hadn’t played a Tales for about 10 years and bought a broken one (but in incredible aesthetic shape) locally last week. WOW! What a fun game!

Bad terminology, but bad power supply board. Replaced and had to tweak switches. Previous owner stated game had been dead for over 10 years

Now you need the ColorDMD mod. It really does wonders for the animations. Either way it looks like you scored a great find.

I have the same ones in my Metallica but they work just as well with Tales, too.

I'd like to get side art or mirrors but I find the playfield is a tight squeeze with the cabinet and may destroy the art/blades when lifting/lowering the playfield. Watching with interest

#3328 5 years ago

I ordered a set of those from mezel a few weeks ago. They just shipped.. waiting for that before I install my art ImNotNorm I’d be willing to bet you don’t want to install art without the protectors, of all the games I’ve owned it’s got the least amount of space.

I have mirror blades on my TFTC and they do get scratched regardless of how careful you are, protectors are a very good idea.

After about 2 years of trying to join the club I was finally able to purchase a TFTC! Purchased some glow titans and was able to tune up a couple of things thanks to Boat

G,day everyone. Ive just joined the club this week. This gem delivered last Friday. Has the black decals with nice new black powder coat. Rebuilt boards and a few mods to boot.
Wasn’t sure how it would go up against newer games but I think it’s holding it’s own very well. Play great straight out of the van after a 1000km journey. A testament to the restorer who spent a lot of time getting it dialed in and playing fantastic. I have a ColourDMD LCD to go in at some stage. Guys can you help me locate a coin door decal. They just don’t look finished without one in my opinion. Just been reading this entire thread and picked up some great helpful hints and ideas. Looks really nice in the line up.

Can y'all help me out with an accurate LED bulb list for TFTC. I'm trying to make a comet pinball order soon. Any help would be appreciated. And or any recommendations on bulb types and colors for certain areas. Or anyone suggest cointaker led kits? Please let me know.

#3336 5 years ago

2019 Code change suggestions:

Problem: Monster Jackpot is too hard
Suggestions: Require less hits to lower tombstone

Problem: Creature feature mode timing counts down during multiball animation.
Suggestion: The timer on the different modes should either be paused or more time should be added after a player hits multi-ball.

Problem: Door Prize mode is almost statistically unbeatable (1/2187 or worse).
Suggestion: Door odds should be made 2/3 instead of 1/3

Problem: Playing the Organ is too difficult to reach
Suggestion: The code would save progress towards Playing the Organ between balls.

Id recommend some passion purple for the keeper targets and a few other inserts. They look great. Comets all the way.

Hi Sean,

I do not have an extra set of side rails for my TFTC, however, Marco sells them and they are compatible with TFTC.

Chad, is there a way to add champion high scores for each mode? Loop champion, keeper targets, crypt jam, etc. Or are the chips too small memory wise.

Also cycling through attract mode advertisements with flipper buttons would be nice.

Quoted from ChadH:

Hmmm... I'm always open to suggestions.

Maybe a way to add an actual ball save based on time rather then a few contact hits.

#3347 4 years ago

4,391 plays later the cliffy protector finally breaks. This is from the inner lip of the protector nearest to the drop targets.

I may just do that.

In other news...I just got my trough opto board today. Looking forward to seeing this in action.

This is in place of the roll over switches in the trough? I never knew this was an option on Tales.
