I'm not near the machine atm. There should be a rubber behind the drop targets secured by the posts either side of the targets. There should also be a metal wire behind center drop target.
check for holes behind the drop targets. yours may have been smashed out / broken....that centre drop target gets a bashing on each launch of the ball.
