Recently picked up a TFTC and haven't been able to take the backglass out. When turning the key I can just barely see the lock mechanism turning on the inside, so I know the key works fine. However, when "unlocked", it doesn't give me that extra height to pop the glass up and out.

Now this is my first DE machine, so am I missing something on how to take this out, or is it the same method as B/W pins? Such a routine thing that I've done a million times on my other games but I'm getting pretty frustrated on not being able to get in the backbox.

When I asked the seller about it, he said he never went in the backbox the entire time he owned it (made me concerned about battery leakage), but the price was right and everything else was nice and clean on the game, so I shrugged it off and assumed I would be able to figure it out. Guess not!

Sorry if this is a boneheaded question. I tried searching here and RGP for help, but it's kind of a vaguely worded search query so I didn't find any relevant results. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm prepared to drill the lock out if necessary, but it seems like that may not even solve the issue, since the lock may be operating properly. Stumped...

Assuming the lock is broken can you just remove the lock like on B/W?

I own a TFTC but never went into the backbox yet. Guess I will have to try tonight.

I think the black foam used so it doesn't move around
has bound to the back glass and cabinet. Push down on the back glass
a few times all around the edges. That has been the case for me before.

Just remove the torx security screws and pull the whole lock plate out.

I will try that when I get home this evening.

I've done a bit of lifting and nudging, but not much. I was afraid of cracking the plastic lip at the bottom of the glass.

The good news is those are cheap and replacable

Shame on you guys for not seeing about possibly battery acid damage!

You are right...I have been lucky. I have yet to see battery damage on any pin I have owned. My Genie came with its original board and 30yr old battery attached with zero damage.

I agree with the idea of taking the lock out just to ensure that it is not catching. If it is lifting pay attention to see if it is stopping from the center or one side. If you lift both sides you can see if one side still moves. If stopping in the center suspect lock issue. If one side something got in there.

When you lift does the translight move at all? If it wiggles it is catching something like the lock. If it is not moving at all it might have something around the edge and be stuck. If that was the case I would spray something on there (water) and hope it helps get it unstuck.

Nudging the backglass around in all directions ended up working out. I was being too gentle on it before, just needed some elbow grease!

Guess what I found inside? Appears to have factory batteries, strapped in with a zip tie. Absolutely no corrosion or leakage, thankfully. Those guys will be getting changed out tomorrow. Then onto the real issue... display problems that I will probably be posting about sooner than later.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
