It’s weird how polarizing EV’s are. It’s ok to like both ICE and EV’s. They each have their weaknesses.

A Tesla pin that incorporated robots, Teslabots, the boring company tunnels, and SpaceX could be cool. Build the teslas in order to make $ to build the rocket to get to Mars

    Quoted from gdonovan:

Yup. I'd be more than happy to use an EV to go to work, but they are not compatible with my non-work activities.

They definitely don’t suit everyone’s needs, but with every new model the capabilities increase.

The new Rivian R1T and F150 look promising.

    Quoted from jeffro01:

No... It wouldn't... Not in a straight line, not sure why you think that. A Model S Plaid+ does a quarter mile in under 8 seconds...
Also, battery overheating isn't nearly as much of an issue as you're making it out to be in the current iterations of the Model S Plaid+ especially with the updated track mode software.
Now the rest of it, of course I'm not going to argue steering by wire feel and all of that other stuff that makes racing what it is.
Lastly, Tesla as a company we completely agree on as it's a corrupt and shady organization but the cars themselves (yes assuming you get a "good one" off the line) are nothing short of spectacular.
    Jeff

The S Plaid run ~9.3 seconds in the 1/4.

    Quoted from jeffro01:

Okay I see this is pointless... Some of you refuse to accept there's nothing like a Model S Plaid Plus on the market today that you can buy at a reasonable cost (in comparison to hyper cars) that will smoke literally anything else out there, period. Oh and it happens to do this with zero emissions...
Sure the company is corrupt and unethical and still can't reliably build cars but to deny the gigantic performance boost you get is just burying your head in the sand.
    Jeff

The S Plaid + was cancelled so technically it’s not even on the market.

    LOL

“Coal fueled power plant closes”. Lol

    #111 2 years ago
    Quoted from gdonovan:

Anyone uttering the term "zero emissions vehicle" has zero understanding where the electric coming out of a wall socket comes from.
There is always an emissions cost of some sort.

    The vehicle has zero emissions.

No one said they’re all powered by renewable sources. Some are and some aren’t.

Our power generation is slowly getting cleaner. Many coal fired plants are shutting down, and renewable sources are coming online. We still need natural gas and nuclear.

Either way they’re much better for the environment than ICE. They’re not perfect. They’re much better.

    #114 2 years ago
    Quoted from gdonovan:

A dubious claim which ignores the lifecycle of the vehicle from the massive mines required in production of battery packs to the disposal of said items.
They are different, not better with their own weaknesses and strengths.

There is plenty of info on the total lifecycle. It’s better.

    Quoted from MrBally:

Welp, that article is PROOF POSITIVE for me!

Wow, you probably just broke a record for the most consecutive posts.

You should share the info you have of ICE having a lower carbon footprint than EV’s with big oil or the big 3.

I’m sure they would have loved to have it 5 years ago. Could have saved them billions of dollars and put EV’s out of business for good.

You would have probably made even more $ with your shorts.

    Let’s see your Plaid killer

    #157 2 years ago
    Quoted from IdahoRealtor:

    Frozen wind turbines?

Frozen gas distribution system was the biggest culprit, but that doesn’t go well with some narratives.

The OG V8 killer, before EV’s started doing it

    #172 2 years ago
    Quoted from IdahoRealtor:

So, the wind turbines didn't freeze?

“Natural gas-fired units represented 58 percent of all generating units experiencing unplanned outages, derates or failures to start. The remaining portion was comprised of wind (27 percent), coal (6 percent), solar (2 percent) and other generation types (7 percent), with four nuclear units making up less than 1 percent.”

    Quoted from mbeardsley:

Yes, of course if it was a GNX it would be more impressive...

    Maybe one day.

    #180 2 years ago
    Quoted from mbeardsley:

Back in summer of '88, I was buying a new Fiero GT at a Buick/Pontiac dealership. They had both a new Grand National and a new GNX in the showroom.
They were charging $3K "dealer markup" over list price for the Grand National, and $30K over list for the GNX.

Now it’s $50-100k more for a GNX. It’s kind of like the LE of Turbo Regals.

A really nice rear suspension and a few other unique items limited to 547 cars.
