Hello,

now I join the third Club - today I bought my Terminator 2 Pinball Machine in meanwhile rare original condition with a good diamond plate playfield.
Tomorrow I will check all functions and later next week I will disassemble the Pinball Machine complete.
I want to restore the Terminator from the scratch.
Actually I'm not sure if I restore Standard or custom made Chrome Edition.
Of course this Pin will be equipped with Color-DMD (LCD), PinSound-Board, Shaker, Hunter Killership, etc.

regards
Averell

#5770 6 years ago

Actually I'm testing the PinSound-Board.
In INDY I use a selfmade Shaker fired on the extension port A via 12 Volt relay supported by PinSound-Board (5 Volt).
For the T2 I plan the same and I want to switch on and off LED Lightstripes (12 Volt) via extension port B supported by PinSound-Board (5 Volt).
Unfortunately INDY is out of order and a wait for spare, but I keep you informed if it works or not.
The advance is, once you wired the LED in the cabinet or elsewhere you can turn on and off via PinSound-Board on each soundeffect you like.
Of course the Shaker is the same and already works very well.

And here he is, my own Terminator.

Some parts dismantled for transport... everything is functional and complete.
Really rare to find in this good and original condition - I'm very happy.

Two weeks ago Repro Refurbs announced to produce the complete plastics for Terminator 2 until end of November.
Actually no more response to any questions... unforunately depending due to licence problems?

#5810 6 years ago

Pinball-Dreams is founder of the Chrome-Edition but you can try to contact the hungarian guy.
First I thought about Chrome-Edition but now I prefer standard view because it's too much Blingbling and the colors won't match at all to the original Translite.
The custom made Translite is incomplete and so I think less is more.
Besides I don't like coindoors or Apron with lame sheet metal on it and loads of Symbols everywhere.

Very nice...

Chrome Edition is from Pinball Dreams Germany.

#5833 6 years ago

You will not find the decals on the webside.
You have to contact Henrik by email: [email protected]
Ask him for Chrome Edition Terminator Decals.

#5839 6 years ago

I prefer LCD and I use the same in my Indy - excellent!

All these Plastics have missing numbers - they're all clear.
I've ordered some of the last licenced Plastics in stock from Australia.
But next year it's possible to buy new licensed sets of Plastics from BUT in Germany.

You have to write an Email directly to Henrik and ask for the decals.
They don't offer them on their website... seems to be limited.

Is this a BUT reproduction playfield from Germany?
I'm sorry, it's really a mess.
But I can't suggest that because their playfield are produced under very high quality standards and will be inspected particular before delivery.
To date no issues like that known here in Germany.

#5910 6 years ago

I think all the playfields have to be send back to BUT.

Apron could be refurbished this way.

First stain off all old coating, next sand or glas blasting and at last powder coating and new decals.
Here's an example of T2, F-14 and Indy, at the end the same Job.

#6030 6 years ago

8.1 is unofficial version with deactivated attract "Boom Boom".
8.2 is unofficial version with shorten introduction for quick tournament game play.

#6037 6 years ago

I also prefer the original Apron (powder coated) with illuminated Scorecards.

#6043 6 years ago

That's it - very well done.
I will use the same Scorecards but illuminated - best combination.

#6208 6 years ago

What's the problem?
Should I give a lesson on how to program an old ROM... this is very very tricky and not that easy!
If you don't know what your are doing you can damage the game.
There are loads of ROM files outside without corrected content or bad checksum errors... and selftesting routine doesn't work anymore!
If someone want to have information he can write me an email.
I also have written a manual how to do this work... but only availabe in German language.
And of course there's special software needed... I have the permission from these guys to use their programs and ideas and it was a lot of work to get all these programs and to write down all that know-how.
I spend hours and days to understand so now I'm in... if someone want to have Information he will get it, but I can't give any advice and I don't go in charge for anything!

#6210 6 years ago

You are a very smart man, and I know that you will do better next time.
Nevertheless, you only want to provoke.

This custom message is only for you my friend.

DSCN5618 (resized).JPGDSCN5618 (resized).JPG

#6215 6 years ago

What exactly do you want "your" GAME ROM to do?
Ghost Patch is easy to do and changes only some bytes in the data of the lamp driver and the tool automatically corrects the checksum.
There are some tools outside to work with, I think latetest version is 1.4?
Custom made things are different and change the measurement in the file and you will get a checksum error while booting the system.
Thus, important selftesting routines are out of function and you have the risk to damage assemblies (coils) in the game.
You need a HEX-Editor and some basics in ASCII and Binary Coding.
And there are more abilities to correct the checksum at the end... hard by calculating or using a software.
The first solution unfortunately is not safe and can cause the same problem with deactivated selftesting.
A main problem is the narrow space of custom text in the given coding - you can't write in what ever you want.
For instance, you get in trouble if you erase only one stop bit in the coding... possible effect... introduction text bad or missing or Pinball is frozen while booting, etc.
Much more problems you will have if you change the GAME ROM... all settings will be lost... not that bad, but it's annoying because that happend again and again until all the customizing is done.
And you need some hardware... EPROM Writer with software to burn in the data and an UV-Eraser to delete the data.

dscn56096psdw (resized).jpgdscn56096psdw (resized).jpg

#6218 6 years ago

I see,
but you can't change to a custom ROM Version without hacking in the Game ROM, because the tool only offers standard entries like L or P.
You have to know the address, where you have to write in the initials you want.

So the address where to type in AV (or something else) instead of L- or P- is 6C70E and 70DBF

In fact, after you recalculate the checksum, the tool will show you L- or P- again, but the ROM is ok.
And I use another tool to recalculate after doing the ghost patch and it works.

For instance, this is an extract of my modification on Indy L-7 Game ROM:

rom2 (resized).JPGrom2 (resized).JPG

rom1 (resized).JPGrom1 (resized).JPG

And here some changes in the Terminator L-8 Game ROM

rom3 (resized).JPGrom3 (resized).JPG

#6220 6 years ago

In other countries it's more difficult to play a Pinball Machine and understand the content of the missions or just the written words in the descriptions.
In my case my tendency is to correct the bad wording in German, but you have also really bad wording in French.
The example in Indy is an old funny fault, because they have written "Rescue the Arc"... but it should noun "Rescue the Ark".
In German language it's worth and somehow without sense... "Rette die Arche"... translated does that mean "Rescue Noah's Ark".
But in the original text there're often mistakes and English is the superior language if you use Color-DMD and stuff like that, because German Game ROM doesn't work properly and during gameplay you will get malfunctional Displays or mismatched wording and graphics.
There are loads of codes and addresses being modified and the procedure is expandable.

#6225 6 years ago

Actually I have no information about any misspelling or senseless wording in the English Game ROM.
But I will search for... there are hundreds of thousand entries, and most of them are not directly visible and hidden between tags and marks.

Another problem are all these funny abbreviations in the menu, impossible to fix because there's no more space for a correct wording.

rom4 (resized).PNGrom4 (resized).PNG

And here again, another wrong word... Time in German "Zeit" with confound letters "Ziet" - no sense.

rom5 (resized).PNGrom5 (resized).PNG

And here's the ticker content, that is displayed in attract mode. Could be changed very easy.

rom6 (resized).PNGrom6 (resized).PNG

This is the part with the complete introduction.

rom7 (resized).PNGrom7 (resized).PNG

And here are all the burned in highscore initials...

rom8 (resized).PNGrom8 (resized).PNG

#6240 6 years ago

I'm confused... are there more than one L-8 ROMs in circulation?
I think it's only a question of adjustment in the menu, for what Country the Pinball should be used?
What's the different to the profanity ROM, or does ist mean Prototype... maybe for early machines?
I'm not sure if there's a special Game ROM for the domestic market only, but I remember different CPU between Indy and T2... both WPC-System, but for Indy you have to adjust the regional code by jumper... the T2 CPU has no Jumpers at all... adjustment in the menu mode only.
Or is there another spelling regarding violence that has or must be removed later?
I need an example that shows a difference between latest L-8 and of what you are talking about.
It should be possible to change the content and send you the file... then you only need someone who can burn the chip.

Yesterday I corrected some more issues in the L-8 ROM and I compared to the Indy L-7 ROM - exactly the same wording mistakes, but especially in German language.

#6242 6 years ago

Ah ok,
good Information - I will research and report.
Should be possible to combine early version with latest revision.
I'm very interessted... I remeber that I found that spelling in the code... it's for the tilt procedure and appears on the screen.
But it would be nicer to hear Arnie talking like that.

#6244 6 years ago

I have the Information that the Profanity ROM is based on older Content and you have to resign of many features they have been released in the later L-8.
I use a PinSound-Board with a special reorchestration from Endprodukt and that's much more harder and violently as the Profanity ROM, and with a better sound of course.

#6246 6 years ago

It's worth it and you can swap it to other Pinball Machines... I use two of them and it's another world of sound and music... believe me.

#6249 6 years ago

I have to wait for new galvanized cabinet parts (tilt) and start to disassamble the playfield this weekend.

Here are some new parts that are ready... bronze bearings and adjustable Flipperfingers milled in aluminium.
Depending on my experience with the lame Williams clamps I use the more stable STERN clamps in the Flipper assemblies.
I use them in my very fast F-14 and Indy without any problems (third picture)
On the second picture left in the top corner you see new illuminated Cyberdyne signs for the ramps. These ramps will indicate alternately which ramp to shoot by LED (green and red). The new brackets are made of aluminium but I will improve them and later they will be done in stainless steel.
I also use the Flipper Buttons in aluminium again in combination nature and red.

I'm sorry for that confusion.

Today I started to disassamble the playfield... man, it's a mess and a lot of work to fix it.

Then I use 2-K Clearcoating to have a layer to do the corrections and repair on, then sanding again until it's smooth... that procedure will repeat again and again. Don't worry, at the end the Playfield will be fine again.

I use an extern 110v inverter with EL foil. Can be switched on or off and placed under the apron.

#6402 6 years ago

Peter told me, that the new plastics will be available soon.
Actually they have to arrange the negatives for printing.

#6409 6 years ago

The decals from Peter (BUT) are perfect and the only licensed ones in the market right now.
They have that orange that almost will be discussed if reproduction or next gen, etc. are compared against them.

#6411 6 years ago

For me these decals were out of question because too much expensive.
And I don't care about the color at the cabinet, ok if it's all rather red then orange... who cares?
Only one kink or scratch and it's the same mess at all.
Plastics that makes a difference in quality, but cabint decals... next gen are not that bad... this orange is unable to print in inkjet or laser.
Of course that's the reason why silk-screen printed decals are expensive... but worth at all?

#6414 6 years ago

In Germany you have to pay ~300 Euro for licenced decals, next gen are affordable for 125-140 Euro.
And the substrate is always the same and not worse or better.

#6416 6 years ago

I agree to the work, it's the same and the more expensive decal doesn't paste easier or quicker on the cabinet.
Maybe in a couple of years the UV-light will procure convincing facts wether the licensed decals were worth the money or not?

#6418 6 years ago

Unfortunately not... http://www.buthamburg.de/

But there's no Information about T2 plastics and T2 playfields are out of stock anyway.

#6435 5 years ago

Here we can see the difference between NextGen and the BUT showed two posts earlier.
In my opinion the NG are not so bad, but there are some small odds in details, not really that flashy, but if you take a closer look you will see.

DSCN5424 (resized).JPGDSCN5424 (resized).JPG

#6437 5 years ago

Sure, if you still want to change the decals and insist on the original, why not?
I just balanced between price and details ... and added value at the end, but I would not pay that price.
If finished, that Terminator will be a beauty again, and even better as it was - with or without licenced decals.

#6439 5 years ago

That's the same point of view for me. I restore these games only for me and keep them in my small collection.
Nearly perfect but not at all costs.
I spent a lot of money and experience in my F-14, later Indy was my masterpiece and this T2 is something between.

Today Peter from BUT Germany told me, that the new plastics for Terminator 2 have nearly a final status.
He gave some very interesting information about the silkscreen printing and that it was a very tough job to rearrange all the details, especially the faces and colors. They work diligently on the graphics... all the films had to be redrawn.
So he promised that the new batch of plastic will have another level of quality.

@Jakusu: Good idea, in my opinion T2 is something between System 11 and WPC, cabinet is almost the same to System 11 instead of siderails and the wooden plate where the transformator is bolt on and the legs of course. WPC leg plates are a good improvement for more stability.

#7639 4 years ago

Yes the Judgment Day is covered by the ball guide, no problem.
You can print individual decals on translucent material and stick it on the Plex.

#7641 4 years ago

The Plex itself about 15 Euro and then you have to drill the holes.
But don't worry I also need a second try because the last srew broke off due to a too small hole in the Plex.
A good idea is to heat the screw and then screw in slowly step by step... will take a while but at the end the Plex will be undamaged.
It is also better to use softer Plex, which is not too brittle.

#7643 4 years ago

You need translucent material, but at your local print shop you will get advice.
Take care with the screws, use a drill ~3 mm for the fastening screws to the playfield!
In Germany you often get 15 mm of Plexi and it works.
Try to find Plexi with that min. measurement, not thinner!!!

#7646 4 years ago

You need two double star posts in that area.
This is the correct "construction".

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

#7662 4 years ago

And consider the outer red lane guides.
The have flaps only on the inside... in that case you have a better illuminiation next to the plastics.
Often lane guides with two flaps will be used but that's not how the machine left the factory.

They don't sell unready parts.

DSCN7905 (resized).JPGDSCN7905 (resized).JPG

#7821 4 years ago

Well, I have checked it and in my opinion the ramp doesn't fit to 100 %.
Depending on the angle to the height the left side is perfect and the protector is ecactly in position.
The right side is a little bit different, but it's possible to bend the edge to mount the protector to the post.
It's recommended to use a hot air gun to bend the ramp on the right side more to the middle.
The original ramp is made of thinner material and easier to fit. The new ramp is "reinforced" and maybe this is the reason why it doesn't fit at all?

#7825 4 years ago

Hi there,

I have mounted the new ramp to the playfield and as I said it not 100 perfect, but not as bad as your ramp!
Actually the ramp is higher, but only because the edges protrude too far down the side - this could be shortened.
The distance to the posts can be compensated with a washer, which is also good for the plastic.
The drillings for the Cliffys fit and on the right side the ramp to the post has to be bent slightly, then it works.

DSCN7909 (resized).JPGDSCN7909 (resized).JPG

DSCN7910 (resized).JPGDSCN7910 (resized).JPG

#7827 4 years ago

In my opinion the ramp should be cutted left and right outside near to the posts.
Measurement for the ramp is ~60 mm between left to the right. The edges are 5 mm above the posts on both sides.

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

#7835 4 years ago

Is that so hard to understand?
All ramps come from Starship Fantasy because they have the rights to them - nobody else makes them.
So it doesn't matter who sells them.
If the batch is bad, everyone has the same problem!

#7840 4 years ago

Sure, but you still have the same problem.
And you cannot assure to get a better ramp from another supplier as you had.
Yes, there are more batches ouside, mine is from 2018 when Starship Fantasy relaunched a new batch - sold by The PinWitch Germany.

In combination with PinSound and digital remastered mix this mod is mindblowing.

Just watch this... it's an older version, but ... whoouuuu.

#8283 3 years ago

This mod is of very high quality.
All components are designed for a long life.
For instance, the servo has a metal gearbox and the ship itself is made of metal and perfectly milled and polished in a very complex process.
The ship also includes very complex control boards that provides various functions.
The kit is tested and there is also an English installation instruction included.
The price is much fair if you know how the entire process and manufacturing was.
It took nearly three years to get this thing done!

Yes, thank you... very unique, rare custom made. There are only two of those.

So far everything works fine on this machine... just had to resolder some connectors of some PCBs and swap a bunch of sockets.

DSCN9190 (resized).JPGDSCN9190 (resized).JPG

DSCN9189 (resized).JPGDSCN9189 (resized).JPG

Next step is to reassamble all the parts on the playfield and to install the UT2HS, a ramp mod, a laserbeam for the cannon and illuminated scorecards.

#8750 2 years ago

The circuit for the UT2HS is laid out.... technically really well done.
The ship itself is also already installed and working.

I'm working on an improved ramp mod right now.
This ramp mod was released some years ago, but the circuit always had development status.
The new improved circuit is ready so far, but I have to do some wiring and check if it works.
What will the ramp mod do?
There are these two signs in front of the ramps... these sign will be illuminated and the light will be switched from white to red if the related flasher is flashing.

Final status of the ramp mod beneath the playfield and now it's time to reassemble the top of the playfield.
I had some trouble with the motor regulator board and decided to renew it , so I have unsoldered all the old parts.
I hope to get spare next week.

Today I finished the wiring in the backbox.
You can see this machine is equipped with Visaton speakers, PinSound 1 and Color-DMD.
The holder for the laser is ready also.
And the playfield gets more and more complete... using a new licensed set of plastics from BUT.

These brackets are part of the Ramp Mod.
Unfortunately no more available... I had them somewhere in a box for years.
Now, that I reassemble my T2 I try to complete everything I have planned in the past.

Made good progress today... there's only one issue with the drop target, I think the switch or diode is damaged.
Next step is to activate the shaker motor via PinSound 1 and some small electric circuits for LED-Stripes in the cabinet and in the speaker panel.
And of course, I have to replace the skull with a better part.

And here's an idea how to create a new skull for our beloved T2.
Still brainstorming and testing with 3D printed prototype model, but it could be a great add on, doesn't it?
I will reply again on this later if the development is so far in progress to show something more.
But this will take a while...

Most of the Terminator's have wrong mounted bracket in the area where the Hunter Killer Ship is located.
As you can see on the picture below - this is WRONG!
The bended part must be placed behind the targets, so turn the bracket upside down.

The problem is the chrome version, that's why I decided for the "normal" paint version... no issues.

I've placed these plastics this way... sometimes multiballs may bounce all around that area.
These plastics help to prevent damage.

Hello,

I have a question regarding the adjustment A.2 21 "Drop Target Down Multiball" in the service menu.

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

I can't find a description for this function.
Can someone tell me, for what this setting is used for?

#9066 1 year ago

Excellent - thank you for information.

I think that the drop target function must work differently.
When a multiball starts, it must stay down.
As soon as a ball is locked in the skull, the drop target must stay up.

I have also placed some Mylar on the playfield:

1. in front of the slingshots
2. at the end of the wire ramps where the balls drop down on the surface
3. on the entire area where the cannon shots the balls to the targets, incl. CPU inserts
4. over the "Autofire" banana insert

Be prepared for a new Game ROM release very soon.

#9176 1 year ago

We are currently testing the latest new settings and improvements on five machines.
An extended description of the A2 adjustments and the entire change log is ready.
There are many new setting options, an integrated profanity part, LED and DMD bugfixes and many more.

You will be amazed and excited about what is possible.
After decades, the T2 will be much more playable than ever.

#9178 1 year ago

Yes it is... now switchable.

Please not for public until everything is tested and verfied.

Custom made message as an option incl. in the code that supports a call out known in the sound data base.

DSCN9484 (resized).JPGDSCN9484 (resized).JPG

#9211 1 year ago

@dna127: I'm just kidding... your topper looks really nice. I had the same ideas but the laser cut process was the part that restricted the results in detail, so I decided to do less and that's it. This topper is made of heavy stainless steel with some LED backlight, not connected to the machine.

The Game ROM was sent to IPDB with changelog and description, I don't know when it is available on their platform.
They were asked twice for progress but didn't response.

If PinSound is in use, there's an rearranged update (V2.1.0) available at PinSound-Community.
Profanity can be used with the latest update, and all the other players without PinSound must insert Profanity ROM U14. The old profanity Game ROM is obsolet, as well as all the other Game ROMs.
L8.3 now includes all functions from L-8, L8.1, L8.2 and even more.

#9213 1 year ago

A lot of old bugs have been fixed, incorrect spellings have been corrected and features for improved gameplay have been integrated.
Everything is done in such a way that it can also be turned off.
Besides flickering displays and LED, malfunctional target lights and drop target, the code has also been expanded, improved and also corrected in the sound area.
The ROM contains all functions of L-8, L8.1 as well as L8.2... and much more that is described in the Enhanced A.2 Adjustments.

What we can say is, that still a bug from Color-DMD remains in THEIR software regarding the animation of the Hunter Killer Ship. We gave advice how to fix that and now it's up to them to do something, or not!
An interesting fact is, that DMD from Pin2DMD are not involved with that issue, because they made a better job.
All the other things have been improved successfully.

#9217 1 year ago

I have no experience with TiltAudio, but if it works like PinSound, it could work.
If you have no PinSound you just have to change U14 Sound ROM to have Profanity call out.
The new Game ROM has the Profanity Code included, just switch on or off as you like.
If you want to use PinSound with Profanity download V2.1.0 from PinSound-Community and enjoy.
Read the change log for more information.
The original display never worked properly and with the display patch this is fixed.
The Ghostpatch for LED is incl. too and can be switched on or off, either.

#9242 1 year ago

You should take a Pin2DMD, they made a much better job for the animation.
COLOR-DMD is still malfunctional at the Hunter Killer Ship and crosshair animation.
Test the new Game ROM L8.3 and play around with the animation setting and you will see the truth!

#9246 1 year ago

Should be available on IPDB this week!

#9304 1 year ago

L8.3 and Profanity only works with the matching PinSound or U14 Profanity Sound ROM.
Again IPDB doesn't support this great work - thank you PPS again.
We will share the Game ROM as much as we can on other platforms, so we don't care anymore about IPDB, PPS or whoever!
This is just ridiculous!

#9309 1 year ago

Try to download the patch tool.
Start the programm and patch the existing L-8 to L8-3!

https://www.flippermarkt.de/community/forum/threads/terminator-2-neues-game-rom-l8-3.244657/page-25#post-1999752

#9311 1 year ago

You can download the tool and load L-8 into it, then execute the program and it will save L8-3.
With this file you can go to your buddy to burn the ROM.
If you don't have PinSound you must burn U14 Profanity, too.
Otherwise, send me your e-mail.

Good choice, Pin2DMD has a working Hunter Killer animation... Color-DMD is too stupid and arrogant to fix their remaining bug regarding that issue!

#9339 1 year ago

Nice collection, go on and update T2 Game Rom to L8-3!

#9344 1 year ago

With which Game Rom version that issue appears?

#9346 1 year ago

Good to know - thanks.
We found some more issues to fix with the next release.

#9356 1 year ago

Yes, L8.3 is available at IPDB T2.
Next release will take a while, so you can swap to L8.3.
But keep in mind if you don't use PinSound you have to change U14 to U14 Profanity to have the callout "FUA" in the game.
In fact, then you have to change two Roms, one on the CPU (Game Rom) and the other on the soundcard (U14).
If you have PinSound, you have to download my improved soundpack at pinsound.org.

#9359 1 year ago

You don't need U14 Profanity if you don't like.
L8.3 offers this as an option and you can switch Profanity On or Off.
If the call out "FUA" is missing in the sound rom, it doesn't mater, Arnie just remain silent without issues.
Download the file and read the enhanced adjustments and you understand.

4 weeks later
#9385 1 year ago

L8.3 will never be an official release, of course not.
Download the file on IPDB and let someone burn it for you.
If you don't use PinSound you also have to swap U14 to Profanity.

#9390 1 year ago

Yes, you don't have to swap to U14 Profanity, you can leave U14 if you want.
In the settings there's an option to switch Profanity ON or OFF.
And it doesn't matter if you haven't installed U14 Profanity and switched that option to ON... Arnie then just remain silent.
