Quoted from Luckdragon100:

Hi all. I was trying to hook up a PinballBulbs LED light strip at the back of my playfield, and I couldn't get it to work with any of the suggested J116, J117, and J118 ports. Not the end of the world, but when I re-powered my machine, my Color DMD isn't working anymore. So frustrating and I feel like I want to cry haha. I tried all the connections again, tightening, removing, pushing back in etc but nothing seems to work. I hear sound and all the other lights are working, but nothing on the DMD. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be forever grateful. Some pics attached. Many thanks! G[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Sounds like you have a blown fuse in the top left of your power driver board.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a way I can identify / verify this? Or a number so I'd know which fuse it is? G

I just tried it with a ribbon from my Ghostbusters Color DMD and it didn't work, so the ribbon is eliminated.

Remove fuse from game and test it with a multimeter

Ok thanks for the info! So would I be focusing on the 601 / 602 ones then, as those link to the Dot Matrix board?

Attached are some pics from the power board. You can see F116 at the top left and F115 and F101-105

If the fuse is busted on 601 / 602 would it look visibly burnt out or should I just get a new one and try it?

Thank you so much. G

Test them all on DMD and Driver board, ya never know. Fuses can look good, that's why you remove them to test. Visual can burn ya if ya don't test with meter.

F116 is in the top left of the power driver board. ColorDMD runs off is 12Vunregulated. LED7 will be off if it is blown.

These 2 fuses can be removed when using a ColorDMD as the high voltages are not used and the DMD power cable is no longer used anyway with a ColorDMD.

OK! Led7 is not lighting up, so presumably that means F116 is blown.

2 more newb questions:

1) Is there a trick for getting the fuses out or do I just wedge them out with a screwdriver?

2) Do you know where I could find a replacement fuse for F116 online or how I'd search for it?

Thanks again everyone. Pinsiders have been such a Godsend as I navigate these new stormy seas haha.

#7609 4 years ago

To get a fuse out, you can use a fuse Puller. Any good pinballshop has those, also replacement fuses. Get some spare 5A, 8A, etc. They do not cost the world.

#7610 4 years ago

It's alive, after spending a few years restoring it from the ground up, it's finally done. Had some wiring issues on playfield swap that were a PIA, but plays great now.

And you can also print one at home if you own a 3D printer.

You can get fuses at auto parts stores, electronic stores, hardware stores, possibly even home improvement stores. Though they will be priced higher at these stores but you will have it right away.

You can slide a flathead screwdriver under the fuse near one of the metal ends and just turn the screwdriver slowly.

Yeah, that is important. Power off anytime unplugging connectors or ribbon cables to boards or replacing parts.

If you don't have a fuse puller onhand, I've found looping a ribbon through behind the fuse (or something similar to distribute the force across the length of the fuse) to pull it out works just as well.

Thanks! Great tips, everyone. Got a fuse puller and some fuses coming in the mail and I'll try those out! G

Malenko

Use the small drop target Cliffy from Indy - it's the same Assy and fits in perfect!
And don't forget the Cliffy at the ball-trough.

As long as it isnt too pricey to order that tiny piece I will get one.

Im going to pin the solenoids with QCs if I feel up to it, else they'll just get re-soldered. The ball trough cliffy didnt have adhesive but it'll get put on when the time comes. Which at this pace will be the Christmas after next -_-

I don’t know if it is any help.
But I started my T2 restoration 4 years ago! (Had two kids meanwhile so lots of stand stills in progress)
Currently I am doing the playfield swap maybe working one hour each evening before bed. DAMN it takes a lot of time. One thing is resoldering and remounting components another is also polishing parts etc. I knew it would take time but I am still chocked on how much time it takes!!
Just wanted to let you know you are not alone

The large plastic goes around the skull, between the left ramp and skull.
The rectangle plastic is used under the playfield on the drop target switch as a guide for the actuator arm (as sometimes the drop target can push the arm sideways out of the way, rather than down and triggering the switch - the guide stops this from occurring)
The 3 triangle plastics are to stop ball hangs
- one on the far left lane guide at the top of the playfield
- one on the far right lane guide at the top of the playfield
- one on right side of the center targets where the right ramp return wireform is bolted to

Manny, would you by chance have any pictures?

Thank You,

Here's some images I've grabbed online - the triangle pieces just need to be rotated such that no ball hangs are possible (that said many people don't find them necessary).

The drop target shows the rectangle plastic guide actuator (#24 in pic) - my blue arrow shows the plastic in the left hand view. Note the switch actuator arm (red arrow) sits below the tab on the drop target (black arrow), and the guide simply holds the in place. Note that the original drop target (as per the manual) didn't have the switch guide, however this drop target was used in a few later B/W machines (eg STTNG & TS) whereby the guide was included to correct the issue (of the the switch arm getting pushed sideways)

Anyone know where I could buy the 8.02 EPROM that fixes the attract noise? I love my T2 but I hate always having to turn it off when I'm not playing it as the attract noise drives me nuts after awhile.

Yes. it will be illuminated with LED.

Hope you will share an image when done?

Also, where can I buy it? Or can I make it my self if I can buy the sticker?

#7637 4 years ago

Sure, you can make it on your own.
Please find attached dimension sheet and decal.

#7638 4 years ago

how much for you to make one? I'm assuming the text part gets covered by the ball guide?

#7639 4 years ago

Yes the Judgment Day is covered by the ball guide, no problem.
You can print individual decals on translucent material and stick it on the Plex.

#7640 4 years ago

I have no luck drilling holes in plexi thats why I was asking the cost.

#7641 4 years ago

The Plex itself about 15 Euro and then you have to drill the holes.
But don't worry I also need a second try because the last srew broke off due to a too small hole in the Plex.
A good idea is to heat the screw and then screw in slowly step by step... will take a while but at the end the Plex will be undamaged.
It is also better to use softer Plex, which is not too brittle.

Thank you so much - this is perfect!
What material are you printing that sticker on? Something I can get on eBay.de
I think I might have to go to my printshop to have it printed on vinyl. Because of the width

#7643 4 years ago

You need translucent material, but at your local print shop you will get advice.
Take care with the screws, use a drill ~3 mm for the fastening screws to the playfield!
In Germany you often get 15 mm of Plexi and it works.
Try to find Plexi with that min. measurement, not thinner!!!

Should be released this week.

Today I drill in the missing hole for the left bulb in the right guide lane... I wonder why they didn't drill it at the factory?

Just joined the club Monday!! Already on a spending spree to make the game perfect to me! Traded my Stern BK for this, like it a lot more. Lots of memories playing this game back when I was in the military.

Former owner added the plasma disc, art blades, LEDs, and a color DMD. I’m adding pinsound, FF speakers, all new nonghosting cointaker LEDs, Titan clear rubbers, and anything else I think would be cool. Gonna break it all down, clean polish, and maybe chrome a few things. We will see.
