Quoted from DS_Nadine:

Ok here are my wishes, they're really plain and simple and yet I think Borg never nailed this, wich is why I'm very afraif of what will come out of this.
- Let us be a character (either choose one of the Turtles, be an additional shitty friend or at least just treat us as one of 'em)
- Define a goal
- Fight the ENEMY!!!
That means:
No "Leonardo Bash toy", no "Splinter swallowing balls" etc.
It MAKES NO SENSE (from a story point of view) that I shoot balls into Groots mouth or bash Herman Munster, that's just lazy "dropping license stuff" on the playfield. Srsly, stuff like this kills it for me and it is very easy to do.
Let us be a hero and fight our way up from Rocksteady and Bebop up to Shredder, Krang, Technodrome etc. in a race to rescue the world,... or New York,... or maybe only Sunshine Laundromat.
(And wrap that in a callout or to and don't just make a choice who to fight next with no context at all.)
Give us the Enemy(s) as Toys and some (flat) plastics for the New York buildings, as we can hot glue in a variety of Turtles figures to our liking by ourselfes.

Sounds like you’d be happy with a re-themed Deadpool...

Quoted from DS_Nadine:

Youre trolling me?
Exactly the opposite.
Theres no goal that‘s told why I‘m battling those guys and... things.
And the only physical thing to shoot for is (Mini) Deadpool himself.
No, only game that get's this kinda right at the moment is BKSoR.

You’re battling the bad guys because you’re Deadpool and just like a st. Fighter game you move thru the lower level opponents until you get to the mini-bosses and ultimately the main big boss. If that doesn’t sound like 80/90s arcade game goals, then you’re simply unfamiliar with them.

Quoted from NightTrain:

I think he’s referring to hitting the little Deadpool toy. I agree, it’s incredibly dumb and takes away from the entire feel of the fame. Here you are in an epic battle with the enemies, then you are beating up yourself too? Really Gomez? That’s the best you came up with and you’re heading up shit at Stern?
Don’t fuck up Turtles. For the love of my inner child, don’t fuck it up....like you do all of your play fields.

I agree with the toy but that was only part of his complaint.

#153 4 years ago
Quoted from DS_Nadine:

You could just read what I wrote.
Besides the Mini Deadpool Bashtoy, that is not fitting. Where's the context?
That 80's arcade game goals are pretty simple: Save the XXX.
With Turtles it'd be "save April" and then "Save New York", story told.
You have to battle an endboss in Deadpool, but you never see him beforehand.
(You see the black Knight troughout the whole game but have your way up to him.)
And you don't know what he did.
And why is he sending Ninjas in my pinball basement?
Deadpool kinda has that I was said, so you travel trough time to get that Dinosaurs and Megalodons DNA... but why, and why isn't that said.
One callout would be sufficient.
Like "ToTaN" the second you start the game:
"There was once a beautiful Princess, that was kept by the evil Genie whatshisname."
OH, I HAVE TO FREE THAT PRINCESSS!!! I HAVE TO BATTLE THAT GENIE and (aftzer 2 minutes of play) COLLECT THAT JEWELS TO DEFEAT HIM.
Same goes for Medival Madness, that doesn't need any explanation at all, a look at the playfield is sufficient. (A lot of other older games are that way.)
And back to Deadpool...
...you shoot Deadpool himself, and choose 1 fights for whatever reason in the display.
Wow.
No, srsly that's lackluster. Especially since it'd really be doable with minimum effort, a hand full of callouts, from Stern.
I had maximum hopes for Deadpool when they said they had an original story writer on board, but what has he written?!
A story it ain't. That (family friendly) callouts?
Srsly, that's how Deadpool dies for me, just wake a little story related motivation to make my way up to the final boss!

What you wrote only makes sense if you weren’t familiar with the comics. Otherwise, you wouldn’t need a call out to know you are simply playing out some of Deadpool’s most well-known conflicts in the comics. Remember this is not a movie-based theme.

Quoted from DS_Nadine:

And yet in any comic or movie is a story/ red thread and not just people punching each other.

As I said, that’s what 80s & 90s fighting games were about—moving thru the lower level enemies until you reach the main boss. DP pinball was intended to be a mashup of that and the comics, and they they succeeded. The bash toy was just DP humor and may found that worked well with the comedic artwork & callouts. Ask anyone who has this game on route, it’s typically among the best performers.

#158 4 years ago
Quoted from DS_Nadine:

Yes.
But you brought Deadpool up, that it would fit to my description,... wich it doesn‘t.
And if we talk fighting games I talk the TMNT Sidescrollers... Since this is the TMNT thread. Wich had progression and small stories. Like Shredder robbing the Statue of Liberty for whatever reason.

Side scrollers are not fighting games—they are side scrollers.

St. Fighter & mortal kombat are fighting games and that is what DP was drawing inspiration from. Start with lower level characters and move up to mini-boss fights until you finally get to the main boss. That’s pretty much what you wrote in your original post and exactly what DP does.

Now the bash toy (mini DP), I agree doesn’t support this but outside of that it does.

Anyway, I’m cautiously optimistic for this game. Hopefully Stern uses lots of 80s assets combined with interactive toys!

Quoted from SkillShot:

I just hope we don’t get a repurposed Death Star as an exploding technodrome.

Why not? That would be cool as long as there are as many new mechs/toys as rumored!

#245 4 years ago
Quoted from Psw757:

I was hoping it was one of the rumored music titles, thought one of the usual correct predictors indicated this but maybe not.

Well there’s GNR from JJP next if you’re looking for that genre....

Same here. Everything seemed like a winner, but the code would have to be at an acceptable state before I would take a chance.

JP was pretty well coded so it’s certainly possible!

I do think that a tmnt pinball should be announced in April!

April 2021.

Keeper? Who knows. I love certain games for sure but once they reach a certain price I sell bc no Pinball game is worth 15 or 16k imo which is why I sold alien and potc.
Alien is still my favorite game btw and will remain my avatar.
This is a Stern so I have to check my expectations accordingly but I have a feeling this is going to be like JP Stern, not like black Knight Stern.

You mean “no Pinball game is worth keeping if you can get 15 or 16k”

#667 3 years ago

These images are not from the game. Just speculation at this point.

Quoted from Rarehero:

But why is that fun in the context of pinball? You can’t see what the other person is doing or interact. You’d only know at the end of a game who “won”. Who cares? In an online racing game you see & interact with each other.
Why is it so hard to visualize that pinball is not a video game? Lol

JJP already has a large screen and a camera in the back glass. Just allow it to mechanically rotate down during online play so your opponents/friends can see the others playfield on their LCD screen. Add a microphone near the apron and instant online community play!

#898 3 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

What community? Small user base would make “online pinball play” relatively useless.
Are you really gonna watch a video of someone else’s playfield while you’re trying to play on your own? What would the purpose be? You won’t be doing the same synced things like a video game because pinball is random.

You take turns. Your machine would essentially be dark until your turn.

#899 3 years ago
Quoted from Joe_Blasi:

lag, dropouts, can make for issues.

It’s not a fighting game where input lag would affect anything. It’s essentially a built-in “FaceTime” feature that recognizes when each player is having their turn. In a 4 player game, the other 3 players would have a “dark” PF and would watch the Active player’s PF on their screen and communicate via video chat in smaller boxes on the same screen.

I think it would be pretty easy to implement.

#918 3 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

That would be horrible. Why would you want your machine to go dark to wait for someone somewhere else to do something? You could be playing your game.
Stop trying to force something horrible not compatible with pinball to be a pinball thing.

Sounds like you have never played multiplayer on one machine. FYI: You take turns and watch when its not your turn. You’d hate it.

Quoted from Rarehero:

False equivalency. Hanging out with friends together is different than a machine doing nothing while people online do things.

Incorrect. How can people who are having fun hanging out online already all of a sudden not have fun when they ADD an additional layer of interactivity [called competitive pinbal]??

You also must have never heard of Twitch. Growing faster than YouTube. Millions of people clearly enjoy watching with no interactivity.

At least this way you are also interacting via not only video chat but also scores on the same game.

And...if you have any imagination at all (which I’m beginning to doubt) then you could easily find numerous ways to affect/divert a ball on your buddies’ PF so long as the effect is built-in and can be used only once per player but must be timed correctly for maximum impact.

Quoted from Rarehero:

I have enough imagination to know that your definition of “online pinball” sounds like a nightmare of boredom.
Also, when’s your P3 arriving?
Clearly you’re new and don’t understand pinball. Maybe you’ll understand and enjoy the game someday. Pinball is nothing like a video game & by its very nature cannot be as interactive & satisfying online like a video game is, nor will it ever have the userbase to make it worthwhile for pinball developers.

You failed to answer my question....I won’t be holding my breath as it’s clear you lack logic.
