Quoted from PinMonk:

That's a very short list with, what, Lyman and maybe Tanio? That's about it, and Tanio is great, but very new.

Don’t forget about Timmy, the rookie of the year Sexton.

Quoted from SkillShot:

Uhh have you played BM66? It has amazing video. HD has nothing to do with anything. Same for Elvira.

Well, BM66 has high definition conversions from film available and 1987 TMNT is still only VHS standard definitions sources so HD has something to do with it.

You can show a standard def picture on an HD lcd or it can be converted through the software. It would work just fine. This isn’t ground breaking and can be done with any video editing software. It won’t be super crisp, but certainly workable.

What does VHS have to do with anything? You think Nickelodeon just has a closet full of VHS that they gave Stern?

If you guys are not watching this pro stream - check it out later. This game is a BEAST on the pro and overall, with jack playing it as is, this game’s code is great and it just works on so many levels. prob the best offering from stern on a pro that I’ve seen. RGB, an actual ball lock and more. Great art package too.

Do the balls lock under the van? Lock 3 in there or can you do more?

#2006 3 years ago

I like the 4 player co-op mode. Its like you can have a minimum of a 12 ball game. You can get real far in the code that way.

#2007 3 years ago
Quoted from chuckwurt:

It does hold all 3 back there and drop them out the side. I haven't seen it hold more than 3.

Watch 1hr 37min into the current stream when he starts the multiball.

Batman 66 has nice 1080p restored footage. TMNT isn’t film sourced - it’s old 80s/90s broadcast masters...a hair better than VHS. Still, on a small LCD score display, you’re not going to really notice the resolution of the clips that much, especially since Sterns tend to have compression artifacting even with HD sourced clips. The models & texturing of Stern’s CG isn’t exactly making use of high resolution texture or anything.

Thanks for clearing that up, I don’t think the grain would be an issue and a step up from what is currently there as you’ve shown.

Live stream confirmed that all the episode inserts mid-playfield are just white, so I'll have a color bracket (or brackets, depending on what I find under the playfield) for them. Helpfully, ZY outlined each insert with the color the insert represents, so that will make color choice a lot easier.

If “no clips” was a Nick thing, I’d rather see Yeti’s art on screen with some After Effects motion-comic style movement and FX....but most here seem impressed by it, so it is what it is. At the end of the day, it’s the score display. The playfield is where my attention is & that art is great.

No they are not. Green if you beat it, red if you fail it.

Yeah I think it’s white when it’s ready to start. Then afterwards turns red or green if you failed or completed it.

What’s weird is some clips they use Yeti’s April, which looks good, but then there’s that crummy news report image. They show Yeti’s on that reel image (maybe when hitting the April target).

How’s it going selling that pro?

#2016 3 years ago

So I’m done watching any more of this game. It’s clearly a winner and my choice of a pro was finalized with that stream.

Going forward it’s seems like pinside is allowing a club thread to be opened before the release of the game. I wasn’t aware that was allowed so I was thinking of making this thread the club thread considering so much info is already here and I HATE multiple threads for the same game (to discuss).

Weird. Early in today's stream Dwight specifically said the inserts were just white, no RGB.

EDIT: Confirmed White only. Colored for complete/fail is on screen only

#2018 3 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

This is definitely the worst theme Stern has done in a long, long time.
However, there are people that for some reason love mutant ninja turtles, so for them it's a good theme.
I think it's pretty much like that with every game. Makes me wonder why people even say they hate a theme.

You’re right. Just confirmed that those inserts are always white. Only the UI does the red and green stuff.

Yes, that's what Dwight said. Inserts on PF are just plain white, but the SCREEN shows the colors. Glad to know I'm not going insane...

Trash April, The Real April from the books and the 90’s cartoon was a cute nerd. Not a swol tiddy porno chick haha.

What toy features are in the pro? It's just the spinning disk right, no other toys?

#2026 3 years ago

OP needs to take a vote here, PRO vs PREM. Im buying one 100% but I cannot decide. Prem looks STACKED. But the pro is definitely honorable. Excellent value for the price point.

Quoted from jonesjb:

The van is there, but no functionality.

#2028 3 years ago

Yes, and non functional van. Also, the disc only spins in one direction.

There is a physical ball lock under it, though. Not as cool as coming out of the van, but at least it's not a virtual lock.

Yep and for me that’s big. I hate virtual locks but stern out of nowhere decides to break the trend and give us a real lock on the pro.

Btw - I laugh when I hear people say the pizza spins BOTH ways on the pemium. Holy shit - both ways!!!! Wow!

This is what the premium comes down to. Do you want that diverter? No, go pro. Yes, go premium.

Both ways and variable speed DOES make a difference. jjPotC's spinner is much wilder than a regular X-Men or Twister spinner. Probably where Stern got the idea once they saw jjPotC in motion.

Well me and a buddy were watching on the first night and I swear it looked like both were changing color as we discussed those along with the UI. Guess my tv’s color sucks. Haha

Yet Borg says it makes a huge difference. I’ll wait and see until I’ve played both to see if there’s a difference, but sounds like their is a big difference in ball action with the bi-directional disc.

#2034 3 years ago

Spoiler - the ball moves in many directions either way. I’m sure Borg and others says it makes a HUGE diff. For 2k+ I would say the same too ; )

I watched both stream (Prem and pro) - pizza looked the same to me.

JP premium = no brainer. Anyone with a JP and no trex (aka Sterns best toy in years if not ever) is missing out

This is not that. but that’s just me. I prob should stop pumping the pro before stern nerfs it!

#2035 3 years ago

Not really - check the thread.

I agree though - that’s why there are options out there to choose from. Some might not choose wisely but that’s fine ; ) I can truly understand though people that want that diverter they’re going Prem.

Are the "Lair" and "April" targets Stern's attempt at meeting ADA requirements for blind players?

The ball lock van situation is what baffles me, i really don't care about the diverter but that van releasing the balls is so cool.

But then they have the whole staging 4 balls in there at all times, why not just lock 1 ball at a time, you can either release all 4 balls when you hit the ramp for the fourth time, or if you picked Donatello and it starts after 1 ball, just add the balls into play from the through and have a different animation playing where Donny is in such a rush to get going he forgets the others and they run after the van shouting "wait up dude!" or something, one of em quickly grabbing a slice of pizza out of the box on his way out...you know, something fun and quirky...

Just the rotating pizza on the pro is a bit low on fun stuff, wished it had the van multiball release, and prem could keep the krang toy and the diverter and the choice would be so much easier to just go for the pro...decisions decisions

Quoted from usandthem:

I’m growing to like them. They are coded so you not only have to hit them a number of times to spell April or lair, you only have a certain amount of time or you lose progress.

#2045 3 years ago

Totally, the van releasing multi ball is very cool. I would definitely miss that on the pro. It’s a tough call. Even the Krang toy...while kinda lame...is also kinda cool in a kitschy way. There’s prob not $2k worth of value in the extras but the level of theme integration and toy interactivity has me leaning towards premium.

I agree with Delt31 on this (shocking, I know). The pro feels very comparable to the Prem/LE. I didn't miss the glider/diverter at all, and the spinning mag pizza was still very fun and seemed to work just as well as the LE's version of it. I wouldn't feel bad at all about having the Pro. The door opening on the Turtle Van IS cool, but not $2k cool for me. And that's really all I'd miss from the Premium. So very easy choice for me personally.

This TMNT Pro feels very loaded to me. I really like it.

Yeah, they're growing on me too. I like how the ball was kinda bouncing back and forth between the two big targets across the playfield. I feel like the speed and flow was increased by not having drops, or having to hit certain particular stand-ups. I don't view them as a con or cost-cutting measure now that I've seen them in action.

I think that was more a function of the video quality of the stream. Color was probably bleeding into the white from the playfield. I noticed the effect, too.

I kind of felt that it was cheapening things on Munsters. To collect Lily, 4 quick hits to the target, usually random ones at that, and voila, she's collected.

#2050 3 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

RE: Dwight Code
Dwight gets a lot of unnecessary heat because of vocal personalities like Kaneda and other pinsiders who desire linear simple rulesets, and don't appreciate long term lastability HUO-style rulesets that offer both depth and breadth. As it sits now, GOT & SW are 2 of the best rulesets in all of pinball. And don't forget, he came in and worked countless OT hours to get Star Trek where it is today.
I believe it was mentioned in many podcasts that Dwight was instructed to make Munsters ruleset 'simple' - and he delivered. This was known to many people before buying.
So while TMNT may not be a dream theme for me (I do like ninja turtles by the way), but to me it feels more like a Dream Team (Dwight, Borg, Yeti, Thompson, Mike).
I will say this though; one of my biggest concerns about the game, which may be the reason I end up not getting one, is they appear to be spending a lot of resources on multiplayer. Being an older guy (44) with young kids, It's probably been 2+years since I sat down with some pinheads and enjoyed multiplayer games. Maybe rarehero can convince them to get internet connectivity and online gaming going

Don’t have to make excuses for Lyman

And whomever is on the Elwin JP team

You go ahead and take the leap SKB

There is a reason Dwight gets a bad rap, deserved or not

It is what it is

And he can redeem himself, or not

But I’m a serial LE buyer and not buying yet because of Dwight and Munsters
