Can anyone recommend a game like TMNT? I really enjoy it as a more simple game in my collection, I mostly just go for Final Battle and ignore score and Cowabunga unless I happen to get close to it.
What I like
- starting a mode is the same 3 shots every time so you can really learn to dial them in
- ball is captured on mode start so you can actually watch the animations
- audio you can quote on mode start
- mode completion isn't necessary to get to wizard mode
- only the modes are needed for wizard mode, no sjps in mbs, side modes etc
- epic wizard mode with stages and not just shoot shots till you light sjp
- music
- art
- fun atmosphere it creates (hard to quantify I know)
I also enjoy more complex games but have plenty of those already. Thanks!

EHoH checks a lot of your boxes.

Quoted from cabal:

Munsters? well it's even little more less complex than tmnt.
you have six modes to start wizard mode, each mode has it's shot's that need to be make, very simple to learn.
if Wizard mode is completed you start again.
from your description i would go for pro version without the lower playfield.
both tmnt und munsters have a very good theme and theme integration into game is so good.

Thanks, I dismissed Munster as being too easy previously but that’s kind of what I’m looking for now I guess! I’ve played a premium before and found the lower playfield to be a bit of a gimmick so you’re right the pro is probably the way to go for me.

My only problem with Elvira is the final wizard mode is 1 shot. Doesn’t feel very rewarding, but maybe gappa makes up for it?

I love my Munsters premium and the bottom playfield is one of the best. When you get to Munster madness and are playing upper and lower playfields at the same time is absolutely fantastic. My grandson got to it and he was having a blast.

Have you been to the final wizard mode? I played the game hundreds of times and only made it to the final wizard mode once. And yes, I missed the shot and drained.

Not yet as I’ve only played on location but I’ve got to wizard mode on all the games I’ve had at home so imagine it would happen if I had Elvira here. It’s just whether the rest of the game makes up for the wizard mode. One of the things I didn’t like about AIQ was that if you had a brilliant game, collected and kept all the gems the final wizard mode auto completed. I wanted to play it!

I find it quite hard to get a good idea if I’ll like a game by playing it on location only. Turtles is one of my favorite games but apart from appreciating how it looked I didn’t like it that much on location before I bought it.

Anyone else have their auto extra ball setting go off the rails? Mine is saying 20 episodes / 82 pizza slices needed for an extra ball! We do keep our machine set to 5 balls, could that be throwing off the auto extra ball thresholds?

I know we can manually set to 2 episodes / 55 slices for a more consistent experience, just curious why the auto settings have drifted into impossible to achieve.

I figured out why my scores suck so bad. My 2x stand-up target wasn't registering, and never has been. Minor assembly error. My scores still suck, but definitely less so than before! I will try to crack 50M tonight.

I'm going to be streaming some TMNT LE co-op mode tonight, stop by and join in the fun! 6 p.m. MST

Hey all, I just picked up a TMNT premium on Friday (First Pin) ! I have been playing a lot with the family, my three year old just loves it. There has been a few issues I have been having. First was the van diverter was getting stuck so I fixed that, then the glider toy got loose and was wobbling so I tightened that up. Now I was having the best game this weekend hit the turtle power multi ball and was going good until I seen a metal part start sliding down the playfield.

So I stopped the game and retreive the part and from the manual it looks like #3 from the 5.32 RAMP DIVERTER ARM ASSEMBLY. So I looked for part #4 the screw and I saw it below the van.

How hard is the job to get those pieces back in place I really don't know where to start I think I'll have to remove the van to start.

Has anyone used Locktite on these screws? Is it common for a NIB to have these screws come loose so easily?? Thanks.

This happened on my TMNT Premium and the one in my distributor’s warehouse. The van diverter arm disconnected from its plunger assembly, because the connecting bolt was too loose. Accessing this is best done from the back of the playfield. That way you only need to remove the plastics over the van and the topmost part of the left ramp, instead of the whole ramp assembly. You also don’t need to remove the van this way. It’s not the easiest repair for a novice, mostly due to the access issues… but removing the back panel on the playfield to access the coil assembly for the fan diverter is the easiest method. Good luck!

I'm hoping I can do the repair with the table still in the cabinet. I did find a diverter rebuild pdf from Stern here on pinside I'm hoping that will help. Thank you for the direction hopefully I can get the game up and running in a few. Going to have to learn to repair so mind as well jump in the deep end haha.

It is absolutely doable with the playfield in the cabinet. Just pull it out as far as it can be to allow the most access to the rear. I found it helpful to temporarily tape a flashlight to the underside of the back box just for extra light from the rear.

#11218 59 days ago

Hey TMNT owners! Looking at this pin as a contender for my first one. I've always been a big fan of the franchise and it looks fun with lots of cool art and toys and it's also ranked highly on pinside top 100's list.

However, when comparing this with many of machines from stern in the same age range of 2017 - current, it is cheaper than almost all of them... By an average of $500 - $1000 for each model it seems.

While that seems great on paper (who doesn't like saving money), it's got me wondering if there's something known about the machine that I'm not aware of? Any notorious gremlins or things that always break that are expensive / super annoying (outside of normal pin standards)?

Just wondering why this one seems to fetch lower $$$ than others?

Okay perfect! From the Stern Rebuild Guide it says to remove the ramps and sensors if I can get by with removing the top section and the back and squeeze in there to fasten that point I'll be happy lol. I'm for sure going to use loctite on the screw. Other than this I am really happy with the game!

Hi. New to the TMNT club (PRO - NIB) - loving it!. A couple of questions.
The left and right flippers... are there any recommendations on flipper power (seem to get alot of airballs due to them being to strong)?
Also, the lockdown bar button lights blue quite often, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I hit it. Should it be... what am I missing??
Thank you

It is a tough game. Short ball times and low scoring. Some people want easy games... That is about it.!

#11222 58 days ago

Well I managed to complete the van diverter repair. I got a bit of loctite on the screw so hopefully it won't come loose. I'll have to report back in 24hrs after it cures. Thanks for your help bwalter

You're right it was a real pita to fix.

TMNT is highly underrated in my opinion. This game was a dream theme for me but don’t get it twisted, the first time I played it, I was disappointed. But then as I played it more, and the code updates made the game better, I realized that this game was something special and will 100% make anyone a better player. It has upped my personal game and helped me work on different techniques. I purchased a HUO Pro back in June for a good price and I haven’t looked back! It has become a staple of my collection and likely won’t ever leave. The co-op modes are fantastic with family and friends and the half shell challenge is awesome. If I had one complaint, it would be that the scoring is a bit unbalanced and could use some work, but that’s it really. It’s a fun game, by no means easy, but if you enjoy a tougher game and want to get better at pinball, I would highly recommend it!

Half shell challenge? What is that?

#11226 58 days ago
Quoted from gliebig:

Half shell challenge? What is that?

it's fun timed mini mode. You should complete as fast as possible:
- Added an HALF SHELL CHALLENGE Game Play Mode:
- To access, hold in both flipper buttons to enter the game mode selection
menu and then pan over to the HALF SHELL CHALLENGE menu screen.
- The text on the HALF SHELL CHALLENGE menu screen will be greyed out if
the mode has not been unlocked.
- Start a game as all four turtles to unlock.
- The four turtle lights on the front of the topper keeps track of your
progress towards unlocking HALF SHELL CHALLENGE.
- Once unlocked, the HALF SHELL CHALLENGE menu screen text will be colored
and you can press the start button to start HALF SHELL CHALLENGE.
- HALF SHELL CHALLENGE is a game play mode where you play as each of the
four turtles, one at a time. Each turtle is racing back to their Lair.
- There is a timer for each leg and a total time on the display keeping
track of your current time for that leg of the race.
- Each leg of the race has three blinking shots in the current turtle's
color. Complete all three of those shots to advance to the final
shot state. Then make one of the turtle shots to finish that leg of the
race, lock in your time for that leg, and advance to the next turtle.
- During each leg there are also 3 solid green shots lit. Making two of
those shots will complete 1 of the 3 blinking shots. Once two green
shots are completed, all green shots are removed and two more solid
green shots appear.
- Completing the last leg of the race completes the mode and displays
the total screen. The total screen shows your total race time, your
race time for each leg of the race, your total points, and your
points awarded for your completion time for each leg of the race.
- The ball will continously return to the shooter as long as the mode is
running.
- In addition to the leg timers there is an overall mode timer. This
timmer starts at 50 seconds and is reset each time you progress the
mode. If this timer runs out the mode will end.
- Once the mode is complete, the unlock progress is cleared and the mode
needs to be unlocked to play again.
- Added an "ALLOW HALF SHELL CHALLENGE" adjustment
- NEVER - The mode is never available.
- QUALIFIED - (Default) Requires the mode to be unlocked for each play by
playing one game as each of the four turtles.
- ALWAYS - The mode does not need to be unlocked and is always
available.

I am really torn on TMNT. Picked up a Premium in July (first new pin in almost 5 years, thanks to having a baby and the pandemic) after playing one at my distro and being drawn in by the theme. Even at the time, I was concerned that John Borg's design would prove to be too difficult to be enjoyable. I already have an X-Men, so I know Borg's designs are challenging by nature. That said, the theming is top-notch.

I'm ~250 games in and my high score is "only" 25M (and my only game above the default 20M GC score) after one brilliant Turtle Power MB with Raphael at lvl 3 (thanks to IC storing level progress). Otherwise, it's a "dink around and drain" kind of game because of how difficult it is to capture the ball, post-pass, and just make the lit shots. I also have occasional trouble with the pizza parlor not properly releasing balls (and bringing a game to a halt as a result) that I haven't been able to solve.

I guess what I'm saying is... I'm not getting the sense that TMNT *is* making me a better player, in comparison with, say, Jurassic Park, which has definitely made me change how I play to improve. When my Venom arrives next week my game room will be full... and so I'll have to sell something to make room for whenever I can finally get a GZ Premium from my distro... and the 2 Borg games are looking like the best candidates to offload because the difficulty is keeping me from plunging and playing.

Practice on this one! Cannot stress it enough! The scoring value is in your multiball’s. Learn to cradle separate, stage flip and really practice the upper loop for mondo jackpots and the backhand to the lair for your super jackpot. Also try to be mindful of getting your 2x playfield lit! You will notice a difference for sure. I am a bigger fan of the pro personally, but the one thing I do like about the premium, is the ball lock in the lair during ninja pizza multiball. It ups your playfield multiplier and if you have the 2x running already, now you’re looking at 3x during the multiball!! Hope this helps you in your journey!!

The LAIR shot behind the upper flipper is my nemesis! I've spent games doing nothing but trying to raise my turtle's character level which ultimately starts with hitting the LAIR shot, and it's aggravatingly difficult.

It is because it is a hard game but I play it the most. I think the challenge and the shorter play time. Has some cool modes like Half Shell Challenge and co-op stuff.

Have you tried backhanding it? I find it easier if I trap on the left flipper, then quick flip like a post pass and hold. When it rolls up toward the tip you can then backhand it in. Its more consistent for me.

Greetings Turtles! On my Premium I have a recurring problem with the upper lock in the pizza parlor. Every few games, balls stack up in there; the lock release is seemingly too quick, so the ball won’t have enough time to roll out. The only resolution is to slide the glass down and hold down the lock pin with a narrow utensil (wooden chopstick or the like) to release the balls and forfeit the game in progress. Any ideas for what to adjust here?

have you checked the balls if they are magnetized? sometimes they stick together and releasing them, then takes to long.
For a quick check just replace the balls.

I have replaced the balls, and I degauss them every couple weeks. This pizza parlor problem doesn’t happen every time, but most frequently during a multiball.

For me, the biggest issue with getting the premium was I couldn't justify the price difference in the features. The art on the pro is better too IMO and, as an 80s kid, the theme of this pin is basically the entire reason for why I got it. It turns out that it is actually my favorite game, probably because I get my ass kicked and I want to get better. I got my pro before the price increase and I think that I got my money's worth. Of course, I would always pick a premium if price wasn't a factor.
I still suck at the center ramp shot, I almost never hit it lol. And the only way I ever get into the liar is from backhanding it.

I owned a Pro for over a year.

I enjoyed the way the Premium shoots and feels far more; it honestly feels like a totally different game. It's tough for me, however to pony up the dough for a Premium. Combine that with the mechanical issues that seem to plague many TMNT Premiums and the inherent difficulty and it's all down to "how much FUN am I actually having?"

I have read and heard of people loving the layout on most Stern games past and present, this is not one of them. Too much risk, very little reward, too much stop & go, no flow. The license for this layout simply doesn't fit the game, in my opinion...and that really kills me to say.

How do you degauss them?

I have one of these to demagnetize balls

Total opposite opinion for me. Love the pro much better, love the flow, and the shots are challenging, instead of getting to used to it, to need to trade or sell. This is my only nib game I own of the 5 I have, and I'm not sure stern has made many games better than this one. Love the hard xhooters, because it makes me even more solid on the easy shooters. If you can hit shots on this one, you can hit them on any game afterwards.

I'm having another issue, I'm having a love/hate relationship with this machine I've only had it for a week lol nib from a distributor. I have already had to fix the van diverter but now it seems to start Turtle Power multiball right off the plunge. With Donatello selected if I drain all the first balls then when I get to ball two the plunge will activate the turtle power multiball. I have a video link below,

Timeline
00:08 - ball launch (Lockbar button)
00:25 - last ball one drain
00:35 - plunge ball two (Lockbar button) into Turtle power multiball
01:04 - Loading the turtle van

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: I think the shooter lane switch needs to be replaced, sometimes when I push it down and then it comes up I hear a little double click it seems
