With the recent news of the band Aerosmith calling it quits, and seeing that Ted Nugent had opened for them in the past, it reminded me of this fact. On the classic first album from Ted, and the hit song on the album, I would bet most people assume it's Ted singing. NOPE! It's his guitar player! LOL

Starting in early today Blenderhead?

And yeah it was Derek St. Holmes, homey. Ted did the "sometimes you wanna get higher" part.

I went to the last show they performed together as the original band and Ted Nugent blew away Aerosmith who was also there. And everybody knows Meatloaf was the singer on Street Rats.

#3 36 days ago

That's what started the decades long feud between Ted and Derek, they would open w "Just What The Doctor Ordered" like on Double Live Gonzo, guitars and everything ringing out, then the vocals start and the spotlight shines on Derek, and the audience would be like "WHAT???"

Ted saw that, the ego takes over, and.......

#4 36 days ago

He sings very little.

#5 36 days ago

Saw him around 2000. Most forgettable concert I ever went to. Played maybe one classic tune, I'd never heard of the rest. The only saving grace was getting to see Tommy Clufetos on the drums.

Quoted from TheLaw:

He sings very little.

First couple albums. He did sing Motor City Madhouse and Free For All and I thought his voice was getting better and he did way more vocals on Cat Scratch Fever. When Wango Tango came out I was kinda like WTF.

Last show they played together and Ted had to be flown in from a hunting expedition in Africa I believe while we patiently waited. This really was the end of the band as far as many were concerned. But bigger than life. What a fine spring day it was!

Ted Nugent is the only rock star to ever legally adopt a teen to have sex with.

And Rick Springfield was doing Linda Blair when she was 15 and he was 25.

But I guess she wasn't really Jessie's girl.

Stop the presses, rock stars having sex with underage girls!!!

Back in the day everyone knew this type of stuff was going on, hell Gene Simmons wrote the song Christine Sixteen about wanting to have sex with a 16 year old school girl.

#12 35 days ago

Yeah, I'm going to get this thread back on track with more Ted.

#13 35 days ago

I had never really given much thought to it.
Thanks for the info!

And here's Meatloaf on vocals before he became famous.

I saw Sammy Hagar open for Ted Nugent in Ellensburg, Washington in 1981. Both were good, but Sammy stole the show!

Hey me too!! Still live in E-burg.

This show in 1977 was kind of special as it was one of the last ones Skynyrd did before the plane crash. REO had guitars blazing, Foreigner had just released their first album and that was all they played. That dude could sing!

Ted was on the Cat Scratch tour with the full band in top form.

But I had never seen so much emotion in a crowd once Skynyrd came on.

Saw REO in 77, worst concert I ever saw. Cronin was not good live, at least that night.

They weren't bad at Anaheim. They were definitely more rocking than they would become later on. Cronin was OK, but Lou Gramm who came up next was really belting it out. That was it for Foreigner IMO. One album and a show I didn't really come for, but now wouldn't have missed it for the world. And Ted's band couldn't have been more perfect that day.

But at the end when Skynyrd played Free Bird, every lighter in the place was lit and then the concrete upper level at Anaheim Stadium was bouncing up and down so hard, I'm surprised it's still standing. They were something special for sure.

Blenderhead the OP is a good friend of mine. Brother of Bill who tried to destroy my concrete patio with his head last night.

This is for both of them and all of you.

Seems we are in the “Stranglehold” of 70’s nostalgia ..

Steve Tyler did the same thing.

I’ve seen Sammy Hagar 6 times. I remember around 2000-2001 first time. I remember I believe in 2002 him and Roth toured together. My wife and I went to see Van Halen in 2004 on the release of their album at the time. He put on good shows 15-20 years ago. I bet 1981 was awesome. I’m sure he is pretty washed up now but I haven’t seen any footage of him recently.

Some scream , some sing.

Perhaps we should go back to near the beginning?

First concert 1981 Ted Nugent, Gamma, Humble Pie. Ted was on the Wango Tango tour, Ronnie Montrose came out in a white tuxedo with tails and a top hat. 2 bad ass guitarists

Draft dodging pedophile. No wonder he is a huge hit in certain circles.

Can we find a way to blame it on the 80s? Like when Traci Lords first showed up.

Saw Ted open for Aerosmith at Madison Square Garden NYC in the spring of ‘76. Great double bill. One of the loudest shows back then. Sorry to see Aerosmith retire.

The record player in that video looks amazing, I looked it up, $9k! VPI Signature 21 Turntable. It's cool that there's high end stuff in most hobbies.

Apparently you never went to a "WHO" concert..??

Still like those old Nugent records. I can usually listen to them without picturing a tired old man sitting in front of a nightstand covered with rubber ducks. Whoops, misspelled that last word!

Stranglehold is a great tune to jog to. I usually have that song hit just as I’m starting to warm up in a run. It’s a good groove to settle into when jogging.

I still remember the talk during one PE session in high school, around 1981 (this was Huntington Beach) under the SoCal sun. The Scorpions had opened for Nugent over the weekend somewhere in the area and the talk was that they blew Nugent’s set away. And that their guitar player did too. Seemed blasphemous at the time! But probably true in retrospect.

I remember listening a lot to Weekend Warriors. Need You Bad, Tight Spots and Good Friends are memorable tunes on that. Some nice double lead work on that record.

#44 35 days ago

I saw the Who on the last night of their 5 night run at MSG in 1974. Opener was Montrose. Another great ‘70s show! Stones, Zep, Yes and others from same timeframe. All ear ringers!

Yeah. Matthias Jabs can run circles around Ted.

It means they are brothers less than a year apart and a couple punks I ran into decades ago while trying to play some pinball at "their" arcade.

Big brother can be found here or just click on whatever else he's done.

Actually, it was "my" arcade...

"Kingdom of Oz". Westminster Mall, Westminster Ca. Mid '70's to early 80's. Saw them unbox a brand new Capt'n Fantastic. made it mine.

Then I played it and owned it once the annoying kid and his big brother went to get a pretzel or something.

Ted opened for KISS in 1987 and blew the away on every possible level.
