If you have a Road Show or a Rudy's Funhouse - this video is for you.

The "Pinmation" mechanism that is Ted, Red and Rudy was only used in these 2 games and is quite ingenious. Each head unit has 4 coils in it 1) Eyes Open/Open wide 2) Eyes Closed, 3) Eyes Left and 4) Eyes Right. There is a separate motor mechanism to work the mouth.
Each coil is operated by a transistor on the driver board.

It is a long, stressful excercise repairing these units and there is not much info available in the documentation on how to remove the head from the playfield, let alone take the unit apart. After having to do this is few times, we decided to document the process for others. We tried to keep the video time down by only showing the important steps but its still pretty long.

In this video we remove Ted's head (requiring many disassemblies under the playfield and on top) to just get the head out. We then repair the tiny burnt EYES OPEN coil and reinstall. NOTE - We also had to repair the burnt transistor on the driver board as it was shorted causing the eyes open coil to lock on and burn.

CHECK THE BOARD FIRST
NOTE 1- Ted has the most parts to remove under the playfield but Rudy and Red are essentially the same, if not a bit easier.
NOTE 2 - We decided to keep the BLINK EYES feature OFF in the settings to keep additional stress of the unit after repair.
NOTE 3 - Take your time - This process took about 4-5 hours.
NOTE 4 - TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES!!
Good Luck!

Yep I've done a complete teardown of Ted and Red before. Not fun, many hours of work. Not necessarily hard, just lots of parts to remove and put together exactly correct.
