Hi Everyone. New here. Name is Josh. I live in Idaho. I enjoy pinball, understand basic circuits, own and can use a multi-meter.
I picked up a winter project – Sega Maverick, made October 24, 1994. S/N 1390? No history on the machine – happened upon it at an estate sale for cheap.
Got it home, got it vacuumed out, moved inside. Smells like a stale bar. Came with a manual and both keys. The playfield shows almost no wear. ALL the rubbers are shot – dried, cracked, falling apart. There is minimal wear at the flipper buttons (low plays?). Cabinet plywood shows it’s age – some weathering and some bumps and bruises from perhaps moving around a bit? Don’t really care as this will be a player, and I think the ‘patina’ goes well with the wild west theme.
I’m going to need some help…I will try to search and read and not ask too many noobie questions, but in the same regard, I would welcome any and all coaching to save me time and hard lessons.
I performed an initial audit of the machine. What I have found/observed (some photos attached):
Many burnt out or missing bulbs.
No obvious broken wires or spaghetti warehouse wiring hacks/problems.
PPB 520-50210-05 Rev C - F6 blown – 34V Flashers Right
PPB 520-50210-05 Rev C - F7 blown - 34V Coils Left
PPB 520-50210-05 Rev C - R5 looks like it has been toasty warm – from schematic looks to tie to “top 5 bank DT” and Q42 on CPU board. I assuem this
“top 5 bank DT” is the straight hand of cards associated with the Lauren Belle?
PPB 520-50210-05 Rev C - R6 – also looks like it has been warm – 3 bank drop target.
The relay under the playfield looks smoked – this is relay board 520-5009/10-00 – So I will take a look at all individual components associated with it according to schematics – especially the coil associated with the “top 5 bank DT” coil 23-700 since the resistor looks like it was so hot.
All boards appear to have been out of the back box at some point…a couple screws missing and loose.
Machine boots. Sound plays. Display works. NO coils fire. I will run a diagnostic test sometime soon and report back.
If you guys have any specific guidance for me, please share. Any experienced pinball mechanics in SE Idaho willing to coach me, please reach out. Always easier to have a well defined path. I have found the flipperwinkel site that appears to have some good, detailed Sega/Data East troubleshooting guides. I will do some reading and digest those.
Thanks for reading this far. Hoping for some replies and feedback. Josh
