Hi everyone,

My first ever post on this site which I'm assured is the one to be on if you love pinballs so please bear with me.

I have an issue with my TAF that's driving me mad. When I turn the machine off (using the cabinet switch) the game date and time stops even though the high scores and game settings are all retained. The date and time advance fine when the machine is left on so there's nothing wrong there and it never asks me to reset the date and time when I turn it back on again, it's just frozen at the time I last turned the game off.

The obvious thought would be the CPU battery back-up but I've changed all three batteries for brand new ones, they are all installed correctly with the correct polarity and I can measure the voltages onto the PCB which eliminates the battery holder. I've even measured the voltages at certain other points on the board such a D1, D2, Pin 14 on U21, X1 and they are all broadly similar to the readings I get on an identical CPU board I have in my other machine (STTNG) that doesn't have this problem. I'm running AF H4 and the jumper settings are set to European (W16 out).

Any help greatly appreciated as although it doesn't affect game play in any way, it's just one of those things that's got under my skin.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yes, the battery holder has been changed at some point before I owned it from the original to the improved Williams version. Reflowing the solder joints therefore isn't a bad idea so I'll give that a go and see if it improves things. Many thanks.
