Trying to repair an Whitestar board for a South Park. The boards were originally from a High Roller Casino. Anyway, when everything was installed and fired up the CPU LED 200 would flicker, flash , stay on, go off. I/O board LED204 would just flash.

Found I had flakey 5v on the CPU. Put a new connector on at C2 , repaired a partially broken trace, and now I have perfect 5v and LED200 comes on solid , but the I/O LED204 is still flashing. It appears something in the watchdog circuit is causing this thing to go into a constant reset.

Have swapped I/O with a confirmed good one, same thing LED204 flashes on the confirmed good board

I have a good solid 5v going into the U210(DS1232) on the CPU at all times.

Ideas anyone?

check the ribbon cable that goes from the power driver board to the cpu board. it almost sounds like you are off a row or so.

Not it, even swapped with a known good one.

Not clipped on the CPU or the I/O, was clipped on the "other" good I/O I had used to test with.

"If L204 is pulsing on and off (CPU L200 lit), this means that the watchdog on the Power Driver board is not being fed from the CPU board. Thing to check there is the ribbon cable and connectors from the CPU CN1 to the Power Driver board J1. "

Cables and connectors are good

Every Whitestar i've ever worked on has ribbon cable issues

I went through this on an X-files. Ended up being a bad ROM. Good luck with yours, it seems everyone that it happens too ends up with a different solution. Very frustrating...
