Not factory, possibly an attempt to make the trunk last longer. There are various things people have tried to put on the inside of the trunk to keep the plastic from cracking so soon. Do a search and you will find a few threads. I used the "fiberglass" solution, which is holding up well for me so far.
There is a fiberglass repair kit at Walmart or equivalent, that includes polyester resin and fiberglass weave.
