While I'm posting today, thought I'd share one of my favorite tech tips in case others can make use.

Whenever a game is subject to stand ups that get thrashed and start launching airballs (TZ, TOM, STTNG, etc.) I employ a homebrew tip. Just did it with great success on TS. I go to the hardware store, pick up a 3/8" L bracket, and then cut it at the joint to get a straight piece. The length is perfect. I attach it to the back of a standup target with a trimmed piece of double-sided 3M mounting tape. I then replace the the target foam with a trimmed piece of pinbits drop dead foam. The result is rock solid. I've found this to be much more effective than the expensive re-enforced targets that are sold as replacements.

A picture would be worth 1000 words here.

I'm interested to see what you're doing.

Interesting. Just looking at that, you wouldn't *think* it would help.. but I believe you!

The potential problem I see with this method is the fact that often the front bracket will get bent on the B/W targets. The front mounting bracket is made of such thin metal that it takes a bad beating as well. My fix for them is using the DE/Sega/Stern kit http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=1672&parent=79 . I just drill or Dremel off the old rivets in the B/W targets and install the new parts in place of the old ones. They are rock solid when done.

I know, it doesn't look like it'd do much, but it's very effective. I think it helps some with the front mounting bracket bending, too. The target sits a little tighter in the slot, giving less room for movement when the target flexes, reducing stress on the mount. YMMV, of course.
