does your spinner switch have a diode, or no?
thanks!

Take a peek in your manual. See the dedicated switches column on the right side of the switch matrix. The spinner is on that column. No diodes on dedicated switches.

ok, thanks lloyd.
for other people's future reference, the spinner switch was out. i swapped in a new one, but still no luck. then i noticed a wire of the same color on the EOS had come off. i soldered it back on, and all's good now!
gonna change thread title to reflect it for easy search...

This happened to me recently as well--EOS lower right and spinner check messages. Tracked the orange wire and it led me to the left flipper EOS, where one of the leads had come loose. Glad this thread was here!
I was getting a spinner and right flipper eos message sporadically for a few weeks until a day ago when the spinner stopped registering any rotations. I then noticed that the eos message changed to stuck closed and found that one of the orange wires had come off. Need to try my hand at soldering for the first time it appears.

Youtube has short videos on how to flow solder. Pratice at a table or work bench and then move to the machine.
Or stop in and I'll teach you.
