Williams, 1997Have little info but going to help some with a MM this weekend. Says it does go up and down normally but sometimes after it you beat it it only goes half way back....Anything I should look for. He thinks the set screw and gears were looked at are fine....Opto trouble? Anything else that would make it stop in the middle...

should I replace all gears or just the offending gear

If you are going through the trouble of disassembly, I'd replace all the gears. They do get brittle as they get older and while you've got the mechanism apart, you may as well put all fresh gears into it for the extra couple of bucks.

Is this relatively easy or a PIA. Doing it for local pin owner.

I am pretty sure Marco carries them.
Looks like problem was a broken bracket. Helped him troubleshoot over phone. passed all tests but bracket is broken.

If you're tearing down the assembly, I'd put new gears in just to be sure. But then again, that's just me.
