I just got this JPDE and it’s giving me trouble. With the right Super VUK connected, it’s blowing at least fuse F5 and causes the left scoop eject to pulse. It has also led to a blown fuse at F6, but I’m not sure when that one went. F5 blows as soon as a ball goes in the Super VUK.

I removed the Super VUK wires from the coil and all issues were resolved- no blown fuses and no pulsing coil on the left scoop.

I don’t believe the actual coil to be the issue as I swapped it with the knocker coil and the issue remained.

Any ideas?

Update: I changed the title of this thread to reflect new issues as they arise.

Just put in a new MPU, so it’s not a driver there. It’s also associated with Q3 on the PPB. I haven’t tested that one yet.

I also noticed that F5 blows immediately upon powering on the machine, not when a ball goes in the Super VUK as I stated previously.

Thanks Lloyd....
The Q3 transistor on the PPB tested open. I’ll be replacing that and seeing where we stand from there.

Q3 fixed the Super VUK issue.

Now in test/diagnostics I have the following coils not responding:

-Knocker (#8L)
-1msq 1pfd 2top (#8R)
-Relay Motor up/down (#14)
-Relay Motor On/Off (#15)
-Left Scoop (#4L)

I tested every transistor and diode on the PPB and the MPU is new. Any ideas??

I think I’ve tracked the Knocker and Flashers issue back to Q39 on the MPU. Can’t replace it until next week.

I’m still a little stuck on the Scoop. Based on the schematic, the flashers associated with the same transistor work. What could be the issue making the coil not work?
It is definitely getting power, and I replaced the diode on it. Coil tests fine out if circuit (4.8 measured across the lugs).

Thanks. These all seem to be testing fine....I tested every one of them. The only diode that wasn’t testing like the others was D22, which is above the relay. I replaced it and it still tests strange (giving me a reading in both directions). It’s not associated with my issues as far as I can tell.

Wow.....it was something so simple. I tested for continuity from the coil lug to the connector on the PPB....nothing. I traced the wire all the way back from the coil to the connector, piercing the wire periodically with just the tip of my DMM probe and it tested fine all the way back to the connector. So what was the fix......nothing really.....I think the IDC might not have been piercing the wire enough, or it came a little loose, and me poking at it enough with the DMM finally fixed it. Who knows.

Next up is fixing the knocker and flashers with that Q39.

At least the game is totally playable now, for the first time since I've owned it.
