Title says it all. How should the flipper bat be aligned in comparison with the holes. Centered? Bottom of bat aligned with a toothpick? Thanks for any info.

Ours are centered. The flipper bat is in the middle.

And don't forget to adjust the up and down on the bushing so the flipper doesn't drag. They sell little flipper gauges for this, or a credit card works.
I've always done the toothpick in the hole with the bottom of the flipper resting on it - it should be in line with the inlane, an extension of it.

" the toothpick in the hole with the bottom of the flipper resting on it" That's for Bally/Williams, that doesnt work with Data East/Stern playfields - the hole is supposed to be in the dead center at the tip of the flipper bat.
The best alignment is as you said in the second part: in line with the inlane, an extension of it. (not for Gottlieb Sys 3 though, they are meant to droop a bit, in line with the biff bars)
