I am working on a friends LW3 that has a couple of obvious issues, I believe that they are unrelated but as I am not really familiar with the board set maybe they are.

Immediately when the machine is turned on, the ball eject coil (Q45) energizes. The TIP 122 tests fine, so it is perhaps a pre-driver. Which one and how would you suggest that I proceed?

When I unplug CN11, the coil does not energize so I believe that it is an MPU problem.

Second issue is that in attract mode, pushing the right (and possibly left) flipper button energizes the VUK coil #2 (Video mode saucer and Start Multiball saucer).

What can you recommend next?

Thanks for any advice.

Correct. Q37 is the pre-driver for Q45. You can check Q37 with a DMM in diode/continuity.

I would check the signal coming into and out of Q37 (game on meter in vdc). You can compare the readings to a working circuit (Q38 and Q46).

Second issue sounds like a switch matrix problem. Check all of the switches in switch edge test (or whatever DE has that is equivalent) and note the results.
