They say never to change or try bulb or led with the power on very risky.
I have don it a few times with no problem. I also tried it in 80 pin a few times and blew transistor on circuit board each time. We all want to see what the new looks like right away. whether it be a different color led and so one. Not worth the headache later. that chip on your board when replacing it put it on a socket. it case it happens again. Then your board wont get all hacked up from changing the chip.
