Hi

Working on my SMB and I have a slight mirroring effect on my lamps

Like for Example: the shoot again lamp in test lights castle 1 on the apron

And the Cherry Insert slightly lights a tortoise shell

I have never really had any issues with my System 3 pins and I have 3 in the collection

Any starting point would be helpful

The game plays fine but that slight effect reminds me of like a ghosting led but these are 47s

I can post a video if that would help

Thank you in advance

I guess no one knows how to fix Gottliebs.......

I suggested possible diode issues earlier.

If that doesn't pan out, then there's the driver board--either transistors or the driver chips.

Grounding could also be a possibility, although breaks in grounds general cause various things to not work at all.

I'm guessing it's the shell in the left? If you have the manual refer to pg 53 lamp matrix. It looks like shell #1, bonus chance (cherries), and shoot again are in same column. Shoot again is also in the same row as castle 1.

Check the wiring on the lamps to start.

Or you could try swapping the driver board from one of your other system 3's to determine if it's the board.

I am still digging per Force Flows Suggestions

Just wanted some other options on the trouble shooting

I plan on swapping my driver board from a Barbwire to isolate the issue

I appreciate and thank everyone for their time

Will continue to dig until the issue is resolved and report back so others down the road can also fix a similar lamp issue

Video for the Post to help show what is happening

I am investigating the U Lamp that is not working as ForceFlow Mentioned Diodes

So poking around I found this

A green wire from Adv Super to Cherry
Should I cut it ??

Still looking

Okay after I clipped the jumpers and whatnot I noted 8 lamps are dead

Lamp - Description
13 - 10,000
17 - 1,000
20 - Bonus Chance “Cherries”
31 - s “U” per
67 - Extra Ball
43 - Island 1 #2 (light box)
44 - Island 2 #1 (light box)
B4 - Island 6 #1 (light box)

I do not have a manual if anyone does if you could snap me a picture of the lamp matrix to see what’s up would be great

I am swapping the drivers tomorrow morning to see if it corrects all my lamps

Thank you all again
James

OK so after removing the jumpers you no longer get 2 lights turning on at the same time anymore?
If that's the case then the next step is to replace the diodes on the light sockets that aren't working. Just saw a handful of dead ones in a Mario Andretti.
There doesn't appear to be a pattern to the rows/columns so I think it's likely just bad individual diodes.

And also check for cracked solder joints.

Are they standard 1N4004 or would other diodes also fit the bill like Bally Williams

Thanks all

#14 1 year ago

That is correct

Once I cut off the 2 jumpers that issue of the mirroring (2 bulbs or more at once) issue went away also they got brighter since the bulbs didn’t share power anymore

Yes, they should be.

SUCCESS !!

Jumpered a diode in the U socket and she lights up

I’ll keep going

Thank you all for the help esp ForceFlow as he stated bad diodes from the beginning

Yes

All the non working lamps are result of bad diodes

I did not check the lamp boards just sockets but after 8 sockets rechecked with a new diode it’s safe to assume that if I check the board with my diode on a jumper they would work as they should

Thank you again ForceFlow & kbliznick
