Not familiar with the game so I can't be real specific, but I would reseat all ribbon cables and check the power supply voltages.

Also, if I understand correctly right after a ball is locked the game locks up? At that point would it normally kick the ball out?

If so I would test the switch and solenoid in diagnostics and make sure they test ok and do not lock the game up.

Thanks terry yes and up to that exact point it does release ball in all other cases. Just when it finishes that round. Ill go through all cables in test mode the solenoid and switches all work properly.

After the lockup, can you still use the flippers? If you play with the glass off, can you score by manually pressing targets etc?

I haven't performed the ground upgrades on my Stargate yet, but faulty grounds can cause all kinds of weird issues.

Any time a computer acts funny, I look at the supply voltage.

Hey on your Gladiators does your shaker motor work like other games? Only ask because mine shakes so hard on concrete floors that it will move it around. Do you know if it has a jumper to decrease its power.

Have you checked your power supply voltages yet? I don't have schematics, but you want to check the 5 Volts in particular on the board with the MPU.

Also, if you let the game sit does it search for the ball?

With symptoms like this, I always consider game ROMs and RAM suspect. Problems like this are tough to track down. I fixed a Shaq that would lose sound every time multiball started. It was one of the 5116/6116 RAMs on the MPU.

I also think you have to look extra carefully at the lamps and make sure that all work properly in single lamp test mode and you have no ghosting of other lamps. If a lamp is wired incorrectly or is shorted it can cause problems with the switch matrix as well because of the shared strobes. Sounds like you're in a mode where a light is on and you hit the spinner and the system becomes confused. As they say, wire one lamp backwards on a Sys3 and you "unleash hell." (OK, maybe a bit of overstatement but seems appropriate for the game...)

Ill have to check power supply tonight hoping to at least but I do know the game does not
search for ball. i let it run for awhile one time to see and sound continued to play and i could activate flippers and pop bumpers but nothing else would work

I will also run the lamp test that was suggested to
thank you everyone for advise and help

I ended up replacing the U8-G on the display board and solved the issue.

I know this is a super old thread but I will post my fix for the exact same issue.

Per my board repair specialist:
Take the CPU board out of the game and place on a flat surface that is not metal. Gently pry the RAM chip U3 (5164) out of its chip socket, leave the chip out for 30 seconds and then re-insert the chip being careful not to bend any legs under the chip. This will effectively wipe any stored memory.
Get into settings, perform a factory reset. Don’t go further without doing the factory reset.

Following these steps resolved my issue.
Not saying the OP technique doesn't apply too but the above steps resolved my issue without parts and may be a good first step before replacing U8-G.
