I'll be first to admit I have no clue when I comes to PCB stuff (different caps/resistors/transistors/etc), but soldering and board repair is something I can do no problem; however, I need someone who knows what they're doing to help me out with this .

I referenced the manual (this is for a WCS94 restore I'm doing), and have already replaced the various TIP102 and 2N5401 transistors that were missing, but when I went to compare the resistors I had to stop.

I need to install the R92 and R93 resistors, and per the manual ordered a 2.7Kohm, 1/4W, 5% for R92 and a 68ohm, 1/4w, 5% for R93; but the new pieces don't match (visually) the older resistors. I tested the resistors with a meter and the 68ohm (R93) on both the old and replacement resistors tested at 68ohm, but the R92 replacements test at 2.7kohm (from the pic below, the packaging says both 2.7Kohm and 2.4Kohm on it) and the originals on the board are showing ~2.2kohm. I highlighted the manual for the boards resistors (and also highlighted a comparing resistor already on the board for visual reference)

Are these the correct resistors for my board or no? I'm just weirded out when parts don't match and don't know if the replacement parts I ordered are the correct ones (especially if newer resistors are smaller, different color, etc).

Sorry for the novel of a post (figured more info the better).

Thanks guys!

How did you measure the originals on the board ?

Did you remove them ? You need to as you can't accurately measure them in circuit.

Thanks Lloyd, I measured the ones original to the board by basically just touching the meter prongs on each side of the resistor body. If needed, I will desolder them and test.

But it is normal for newer resistors to be smaller and a different color? Don't know if they ever changed visually over time... again, know nothing here

*edit* don't know if it's just my computer, but my second picture of the replacement resistors is showing (from my screen it's 1/4 of the picture and then a grey box, but seems to work when I click to maximize it).

Picture doesn't work for me here. Maximize it and same thing only bigger.

By different color do you mean the colored rings on it ? That hasn't changed. That is how you know what value it is. Gold band means it's 5% accuracy.

If it's a carbon film, metal film, or carbon composition, you should be able to match the colored bands in the same order from your old to your new. Wire wound will have the value printed on the body, and Metal Oxide will have the colored bands. If the colored bands match from your old to new, you should be ok.
Here is a chart to help.

No, I'm talking about the body color - comparing the replacement resistors I recieved, to specifically the large blue resistor that is on the board (R77 on the board, where the red arrow is pointing to in the first pic).

In the second pic you posted, there is a typo on the left parts bag.
Those are 2.7K resistors. They are OK and will work fine. 2.7K resistors are banded red-violet-red.
If they were REALLY 2.4K resistors, the color bands would be red-yellow-red.

The 68 ohm resistors you purchased (per the parts BOM) are only a 1/4W resistors. There is a typo in the manual. You need a 1/2 watt resistor there. Time to round one up. A 1/4 watt resistor will work, for a while...I wouldn't install it.

What game does that driver board go into?
If you don't want to wait for the part...you might be able to temporarily scavenge an unused one.

[now more confused ] Sorry if I'm a dumbass here, but on the description from pic of the manual above it has R93 (and others as a 68ohm, 1/4w, 5%); should it be 1/2 watt then?

Finally figured out how to edit my original post, so all pictures should be showing in first post now.

The 2.7K ohm resistors are right.
The 68 ohm resistors -- the manual is wrong. Those should be half watters.
I'll shoot you a bag of half watters on Monday. Keep the 1/4 watt 68's... you may need them someday...somewhere...

LOL, try and do things the right way and then find out the 'right' way is wrong!

And thanks so much Ed, but seriously if you want me to paypal gift you the cost for the correct resistors just let me know the total through PM/email and I'll gladly send it your way - your company kicks ass, so no need to comp me for the manual being wrong.

Ed likes to be part of making pinball better too. Not just in parts and help.

Accept his offer graciously. Don't spoil his fun.

^Very much appreciated! Thank you also to everyone for helping me get this figured out as well, F'ing manuals

I wish there was a place where manual typos were documented. Sometimes they're easy to spot. Other times you could be walking into a mine field.
