In the case of TBL (don't know about Alien) mismanagement was the dominating failure cause IMHO. Pricing does contribute to all failures.

My understanding is this is a garage project involving 4 guys in their spare time. No big Andrew/Japp salaries. That is a substantial advantage IMHO.
