As you can see in the picture there is a Williams Cabaret game on location in Cafe Lebowski in Utrecht, which is at the Dom square, next to the city's cathedral and main tourist attraction! It's on free play! Oh and they placed a brand new The Big Lebowski pinball next to it today Note this is the same bar where the game was revealed in September 2014. Just got back after playing a few games. Here's my findings:
- Game is priced at 1.00 euro per game, no 3 games for 2.00 euro discount
- The music is rather turned down, voice calls are a lot louder. Most likely these can be adjusted separately (which is nice). I would have liked the music to be a bit louder, but I can understand they turned it down to not interfere with the bar's background music.
- During attract mode you can keep scrolling voice calls with the flipper buttons, which I like
- Most of the games I played were under 4 minutes (3 balls)
- I think I registered high score 1 - 4 and GC, sadly no replays for high score #1, not even for setting a new GC score
- The game that got me GC was a rather long one in which I managed to stack all 5 character multiballs. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make all 5 character jackpots (at the beginning all 5 shots are lit, but one you collected a jackpot that shot is no longer lit), so I don't know what happens after that.
- Display is very bright and drop dead gorgeous
- Game looks prestine, which is not that strange as it is brand new. Colors on the cabinet and playfield are very poppin
- During game play the rug didn't seem to register hits. However, after a few games I discovered the rug skill shot (press left flipper button during ball launch), which (suprisingly) worked and allowed me to start some of the rug modes. The rug would register hits after that during the same ball as well. So the fact that the rug didn't seem to register hits seems to be more software than hardware related. Could be an easy fix / adjustment in the code.
- Once I got to the 'hit the car' mode, he car didn't seem to register any hits
- Love the profanity of the game's voice calls
- At the beginning of Ball 3 I'd expect the game to display the highest score, or score to beat for an extra ball or replay, but there was none of that. Couldn't find a replay score at all. Not sure whether the game has a knocker, but I sure didn't hear one when entering high score #1 or GC
- The game allows you to make a profile easily and after that you can select your profile at the beginning of a new game and it will register your high score automatically. Nice feature.
- In terms of layout the orbit shots are the ones that need attention during assembly as a fast ball coming from the left loop hits the tip of the right flipper. You'd expect that ball to go past the left slighshot onto the left flipper. The other way around, the ball coming from the right orbit, gave me 2 stdm drains. So if possible I'd suggest to pay close attention to the installing of the metal ball guides as it seems they can cause a lot of stdms when not installed right.
- I wouldn't mind the option to cancel character multiball so you can collect more characters first (like on Stern's Mustang). I would also like to suggest to (similar to MM) take the remaining character multiballs out once you played a character multiball and award a hurry up mode instead. Think of it as less is more. I recall being able to start a character multiball for a different character after I already played character multiball. Too many multiballs doesn't make the game more fun. It just makes multiball less special and the difference between the multiballs is also harder to tell. If I recall this incorrectly, than pardon me
- Currently the game doesn't notice any combo shots. Not sure if they are even programmed in the game, but I just noticed that looping a certain shot a few times didn't trigger anything special like a combo animation, combo count or something like that.
- Had a great time playing the game and will be back to play it more Especcially since it's a minute from my doorstep

Thanks for the the write up.. a little bit of mixed bag but sounds like tweaks will help a bit.

Hmm, maybe I focussed too much on the details that need attention: it's a great and fun game to play, too!

Wow, I would love to have one of these on location near me.

-I had problems with the orbit shots on my machine, and 90% of shots to Donny were returning SDTM. In the end I had to bend the ball guide to the left to ensure that balls returned to the left flipper, when others have reported that the ball returns to the tip of the right flipper when they make this shot. Strangely though balls coming around from the left loop on my machine do return to the left flipper.

-You can cancel character multiball in the current code by pressing the launch button after making the shot.

Utrecht rules. Lebowski cafe has kind of disgusting burgers but it's not their fault, all the burgers taste weird in that country.

Which I knew about it I was just in amsterdam for a week, would have made a day trip!

#7 7 years ago

You have tried all our burgers?

Lol

Lol

I've had enough.

WTF are you guys putting in there? Are you slingin' blue meat or is it some weird seasoning?!

Whatever dude I'm not dissing, Utrecht and AmsterDAMN are both awesome towns and Netherlands is an absolutely dope country - but burgers ain't your thing.

Hey I'm willing to admit all the BBQ in New York City sucks ass. Doesn't make it any less kickass of a town.

#9 7 years ago

Great tip, Jonathan. Thanks. I'll definately be over to Utrecht soon to play the thing.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

True story. I thought our burgers were pretty good. But ever since I had a good burger in the States, my definition of a good burger changed. There are exceptions, obviously. But not many.
Good thing us Dutchies have our own fast food snacks to be proud of.

I have to admit that I'm normally quite happy with a FEBO burger after a night out in Amsterdam. That or some savoury crepes...

Answer me this... should I order one? Like no seriously... I've been agonizing over spending the 10 grand on my first machine for a year. And especially a machine I haven't played in person. I really really want to pull the trigger. It would really tie the room together but is it 10 grand cool?

#13 7 years ago

No? I think first games as NIB can end in disappointment.. they still need tweaking etc. I know my first NIB was not all that great experience. Prob be better to spend way less than $10k on something else first.

Play it first. It's available at various shows. If you like 90s Bally/Williams games then you'll probaly like this game a lot. Think of it as Medieval Madness on steroids with great theme integration.

I dunno but it's definitely $8500 cool!

Let's put it this way. How big a Lebowski fan are you? That's really what it comes down to. I'm a huge Lebowski/Coen fan...I was daydreaming about somehow retheming something into a custom Lebowski machine...I wouldn't even know where to start - and how much time and money would it cost? So, they way I see it - I'm paying them to make me my dream machine, and they've done way better than I could ever do.

What do you think is missing when you buy NIB? Couldn't you still upgrade, mod, and reprogram as tweaks come out?

Yes I was definitely watching the pre-order and its a bummer missing out of the 8500 price. Well $8500 + $500 shipping if I recall correctly. Any idea when you think you'll be receiving yours? CoinTaker is saying December for new orders. And have you played in it person anywhere? I'm also in LA.

I played it in '14 and '15 at Chicago Expo. Mine is #50-something, and the builds seem to be going pretty slow...I'd guess maybe October or November? If it shows up sooner, that'd be great!

It's more about the let down that none of the NIB manufacturers ship perfectly out of the box. Whether the SW not being done, or some part that doesn't work quite right, etc. So your first game as a NIB you may be in for a let down as you are very likely to have to tweak something after it arrives. At 10k might be a lot to swallow.

I remember back when I thought having #17 in the house by july4th was generous

Yeh, I thought mine might hit around August but that doesn't seem likely now.

Unless CoinTaker is selling relatively low # pre-ordered games and/or DP's current "slow drip" production rate increases dramatically soon, I don't see this happening.

Well that's ****ing interesting man... That's ****ing interesting. New shit has come to light

I was under the impression December would be realistic but perhaps you're right since they were only just testing #16 and #17. Its only $1000 down to order from CoinTaker. I'm probably going to do it soon but it would be nice having a realistic expectation of when I'll receive it. I'm trying to pickup a used 90's machine now and see how I feel about dropping 3x as much on TBL.

Not sure if this matters but I guess NIB to me is important because I don't think I'd ever sell the TBL. There's a lot of machines Id like to own and will totally get into trading eventually but that's one I feel I'll never part with being such a fan of the film... or am I making a newbie mistake thinking that way?

Nah, like I said - Lebowski is a special case...if you're a fan of the movie, this is "more than just a pinball machine". When it's all said and done, Lebowski won't be a huge run...if you were ever to sell it in the future, it will likely hold its value pretty well. The great thing about pinball, even if the game doesn't shoot up in value - you don't lose that much when selling a game.

You could wait for a used one...but like you and me - anyone that into Lebowski is most likely going to buy this game and hold...I don't see too many people being fickle with it and selling them off any time soon.
