Looking to acquire one or the other. I have played both on occasion, never back to back.

If you could only have one of these machines in your collection, which would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'd go with Diner because of the artwork and translite. Like both though.

I can't vote - I own both - I have had both for 15 plus years - they are basically the same game - diner just cost a lot more because of theme - fun factor is the same for both when playing. I think you need to make your decision on theme and money. if you want to save a little go with taxi - both awesome system 11 games that are family friendly and easy for beginners to understand.

thanks ed

I've owned both - sold Diner but kept Taxi. They are similar games and Diner does have a nicer theme & artwork, but gameplay-wise it's no comparison, Taxi is the game to get. It's harder and somehow just nails the "one more game..." fun factor. It's one of my favorite games in my entire collection.

I've had a Diner for a little over a year now. I just finished a mini-restoration of a Taxi and played this specific one for the first time yesterday. I find the mb on Diner harder to start, but with two ways to feed customers, that might be a little easier to do. Collecting them all is easier on Taxi though. The Drac catapult is such a cool mech.

I think that Taxi is the better game, but Diner might have a little more there as far as a rule set. You really can't go wrong with either.

Taxi!
the reason: great cast of characters. diner not so much. Yo Taxi!

Taxi very easy for me.

Diner because unlike Taxi, loosing a ball does not cancel out the progress made collecting patrons ( although you can enable this in the settings if you choose). Also the art package and dialog is fantastic. Takes you back to a similar time when people didn't have such thin skin and you could do the whole stereotype thing.

Diner.

To OP. With a poll like this, consider that there are twice as many Taxi's as there are Diners so there are more people who own and have played and loved Taxi for that reason alone. That said, both games are great and this exact topic is often debated. I personally like diner more for these reasons: Diner call outs are awesome(taxi is great too but I like diner better). Diner rules I like better; it takes more effort to get through the characters and you maintain your progress. Coffee cup "hula hooping" is amazing, until you actually do this you wont understand. Also cash register repeated shots is fun. I like Taxi, but I don't think its as fun as Diner.

They both looks so nice, I hope they dont get banged up too much being on route.

Taxi is the better designed game but opinions are just like assholes, everybody has one.

Taxi. Only game I’ve owned twice. It’s an All time classic imo. Still somehow a hidden gem too.

I’m going to say Diner. I don’t know what it is, but I just don’t care for Taxi. With that being said, I know a lot of people like it. I also think Diner looks a lot nicer, which matters to me maybe more so than others.

Diner is a far, far better game - with perhaps the hardest spinner shot in pinball.

Harder game than Taxi - deeper game than Taxi - better art than Taxi - more fun than Taxi.
A superfecta of better.

Diner is the better pin.

I’ve owned both of them twice. I probably miss playing my taxi more though. I find the fact that you lose progress (unless you hit carry passengers) after draining a ball got my heart pumping more than playing Diner. I’m not going to say a negative thing about Diner. Its great. I think both belong in a collection together. Get Police Force for a trifecta!

It's definitely a close race, but I think Taxi edges it out:

- Different and more varied shots to pick up passengers vs. shooting the same deadly targets.
- Combo-able ramps in Taxi vs. repeatable ramps in Diner.
- Multiball in Diner can be cheesed by never stirring the cup.
- Spinner shot in Diner is both important and difficult to shoot. Unfortunately, it can be cheesed quite easily with the Today's Special hole. This makes multiball and Dine Time Jackpot much easier to achieve compared to Taxi's equivalents.

Honestly, it may come down to personal taste, but that's what makes Taxi the superior to me. Diner is certainly no slouch; I'd play it on location any day, if there were ever any around me.

Diner,
Collectability, 2200 games built, , rarity, female protagonist.

Theme integration.

Gameplay matches the them very well.

Mine is never leaving...

Thanks. They're both restored by a meticulous pinball guy. The diner has a 4 page, 2.5 year post on pinside detailing the restoration. It is amazing. They're not on route. They're in my private freeplay arcade that my airbnb guests get to use as a perk for staying in my tinyhouse.
