Hello, I have Taxi machine that doesn't boot up on first try. If I leave it on it makes distorted noises and I have to flip the power switch twice for it to boot up correctly. I rebuilt the power supply hoping that would fix but it still does this. Anyone have a idea what is causing this? Thanks in advance for the help

You need to measure the 5, -12 and 12 volts on the power supply when first turn on the game. Can you report the voltages please?

Need to see if it is a voltage problem first.

What all did you do to "rebuild" the power supply?

I recapped the power supply. I will check the voltages later tonight. Do you think it could be the power switch?

No. Can't be the power switch if there is some life when you turn on the game.

Capacitors are one reason power supplies fail, but need to know what the voltages are to determine where to go next.

This can happen if C30 in the reset is bad. You can test it by clipping a new cap of the same rating to it. If it works replace the cap with the new one

I'll give that a try, so the c30 on the mpu right?

22uf axial cap to the left of the battery holder

To me, it was looking more like a blanking issue, assuming the voltages are in spec.

This. I'm working on a taxi with similar issues. New ps board. No blanking lite sometimes...

So if blanking is a issue replace U43, Q50 and C58. ill do some probing tonight and give some more info into what I find.

I also forgot to mention when it doesn't boot up, the display doesn't power up if that matters.

Thanks, I did this and it looks like it fixed the issue!

Slow down. Start with measuring the voltagea before worrying about a next step.

The capacitor in that circuit is the most common failure.
