Documenting my first Hardtop on one of my favorites: Taxi mbaumle is having me focus on the top side as it’s mechanically and functionally 100%. I’m taking everything off the top just to make things easier to line up which will allow me to clean up everything. He has new ramps, pop bumpers and misc parts so we can make this look like a new playfield swap.
We will take a few liberties while apart to convert flippers to WPC style, pop bumper lighting to the stranded wire (vs. flat tin style) to facilitate future pop bumper tear downs. Also clean up of the drop targets with new decals and reflow of pins. He prefers incandescent so will stay as original along with new original blue start posts and lane dividers.
It’s a perfect candidate for Hardtop as there has been some creative fixes for the many inserts that are worn out. So I feel no guilt sanding the inserts down!
Usually when I do a swap, the game comes and we take the playfield out here. They take the cabinet back with them (often they will redo the cabinet) and when I’m done they bring it back and we go through and make sure everything works. That’s the case here.
Here’s a few pics including the ends where I had to remove a few pieces to fit on the rotisserie.
