For Taxi the upper segments are alphanumeric and the lower segments are numeric only. I ran the display test on a friend's Taxi yesterday and this is the result.
Could this also be U51 and the associated U44 (74154)? I've seen a similar issue with the segment out (not double lit) and I replaced the 74154 and the problem went away. I'm not an electronics expert (only did high school physics) but it looks like the 74154 controls the strobe and if it double strobes would that double light?
