Been playing taxi this Christmas. I can justify it to the wife because it has Santa on it!!

I have a protector set. Can't remember where it came from. Possibly Marcos. Not that impressed as it doesn't sit proud of the original plastics!! So kinda pointless. I have a protector set on my whirlwind and that sits proud by a good 3mm
Quoted from weaverj:i got to play one today. very sweet game. unfortunately, he wanted $2k and it was like a 5 or a 6 out of 10.
one thing i noticed with this one, when you hit the left ramp or a ball comes out of drac's kickout, the ball would hit the glass on the way back down right before the metal catwalk. it's like there wasn't enough clearance for the ball on the right side of that orbit ramp. that's not normal, right?
hope i'm using terms that can be translated.
No that's not normal mate. Somethings definitely out of alignment
Hi Eric. I'm from the UK so unfortunately can't buy but more to say, that's really not too much work for someone with the skills and knowledge. I'd certainly be looking to repair.
Taxi is a fairly rare beast over here and it would be a travesty to part it out with so little needing to be done. Pop bumper and flipper parts are generally going to be rebuilt as a matter of course anyway so that leaves display as the big expenditure. I'd bet you could beg, borrow or steal the other parts off here.
Good luck whatever you decide
Gaz
Oh in addition to my pm, do you have a relay board? The small one either on the back of the light board or at the bottom right corner of the playfield? I need one as on of mine is toast
I'd be interested to hear this. I have a nice white original but I also have a very yellowed one with new decals ready to apply which I'd like to spruce up to sell
Interesting. I may have to try the stronger cool too. Mine is a struggle also. I've tried new coils, full flipper rebuilds and switches. Next thing I was going to install were new flipper base plates as I have early Williams ones with the fixed end stops.
Quoted from joey__p__1966:Thanks for the info . I believe I'm going to try the fl11629. It's just frustrating trying to start multiball and having the ball not make the ramp and going SDTM.
The kickout issue, might bend the rail a touch and put new screw hole in to change its direction. I'm pretty sure I resleeved everything , unless I missed that coil and it's just sluggish , In which case a new sleeve may help. I'll let you know what I do and the results.
Also, Sciddleybop, I have the new WPC baseplates and return springs, still have this issue.
Thanks again ,
JP
Great thanks mate. In that case I won't waste my time and effort swapping the base plates. New coil it is.
And if in future you need to disable it, you can do it in the settings. No need to cut wires!! I love the bell but I've had to disable it otherwise it wakes the kids up!!
I had the same. There were a number of spacer washers on the hinge itself. I removed those and it dropped the height considerably. It still doesn't line up perfect. Although, I should add I have the CPR glass. Not an original Translite
Quoted from Plumonium:About the jackpot meter,
Mine is showing the jackopot value all the time. I thought it was supposed to be showing the bonus value as well some times. Mine doesn't.
Problem? Settings?
Mine doesn't either. Always thought it was supposed to. I wonder if it may be a rom revision
No. Sounds like the balls having the sting taken out of its tail. Try and adjust the ramp where the wire form meets it. Mine got hung up there before.
I can normally pretty easily spin out to 1k and 5k.
They are finickity little buggers to set up right
Quoted from RonSS:Question on "Ride Again " light.
When should this light be on and what does it indicate?
Mine seems to come on a lot.
It’s the extra ball light. Comes on when.......you earn an extra ball
Quoted from RonSS:Hmmm, that's what I figured.
So I've got an issue then. Time to start troubleshooting.
Thanks
Check closely and see if any other lamps are coming on when they shouldn’t.
It’s possible one of the lamps in the row has a bad diode or maybe even the lamp holder is incorrectly wiired (had it recently myself on wh20 and caused a whole host of lamp issues)
You can help eliminate batches of possible culprits by unplugging any large lamp pcbs under the pf. If the problem disappears whilst one of the pcb’s is unplugged, you have narrowed it down to a few.
Either that or you happen to earn a shed load of extra balls!!!!
Lol. Yeah in a world where Gorbie shares a cab with Santa, who cares right!
But they should be just plain ol blue.
Quoted from desertT1:My ringer/bell hasn't worked since I got the game. Is there something specific I should be looking for? I'll take it apart once this tournament I'm hosting is over, but from the last time I was in there a visual inspection didn't show anything obvious like a broken wire or hammer fallen off the coil.
Without meaning to insult your intelligence, you can disable the knocker in the settings. It isn’t disabled is it??
CPR released a mirrored glass about 5 years ago. I have one. The colours aren’t great on it though. Almost looks a little “soft focus” if that makes sense. Still nice though. And as I had a CPR playfield I needed a Marylin glass to match the pf.
It’s a pita to setup. A big part of it is making sure the plunger strikes dead centre of the ball. Mine will sometimes spin round the clock twice, more often a full plunge will eek out to 100k. I always try and plunge for 20k and a passenger anyway so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Quoted from Barr993:Translite mirror question: my Taxi came with the mirror double side taped to the gray foam on the light board but there were also signs of old double sided tape to the translite.
Which method is correct?
It should stick to the back box light board on the piece of wood sticking out. Or if you have a cpr mirrored jobby then you can bin it
Quoted from BJM-Maxx:What is supposed to be on the backglass Taxi meter display? I was under the impression that it shows the jack pot value between balls. During play I thought it was supposed to show the bonus racking up slowly, like a taxi fare. Mine stubbornly just shows the jackpot value 100% of the time. I am using updated ROMs bought from someone on Pinside and the game plays normally from what I can tell except for this one aspect.
Which displays do you have? If you have new pin led displays, the jackpot counter won’t show the meter bonus racking up. If you read back on this thread, there is work around to combat this but involves cutting diodes on the board or something like that. Mine has new displays and won’t show it either. Tempted to find an original glass display to have it back
Quoted from BJM-Maxx:Wow, I was totally unaware of that and yes I have a new led display. I will try to find it in this thread.
Edit: Found the ribbon cable, moved it over and now I have the rolling taxi fare display as it is supposed to be.
Awesome mate. And I didn’t know about the ribbon cable thing!!! What do I need to do.
I personally think Taxi looks really good with black legs, rails and lockdown bar. I’m not normally one for powder coat but like that combo
Quoted from philsublime:Hi. I bought a Taxi a few months ago. It was in bad shape, but I cleaned it inside out and repaired/redid all the mechs and some of the switches. It works pretty good and looks pretty nice too. What bugs me is the translite. It looks ok, but the mirror zone looks like shit. First, there's the scratched translite. No way to remove those scratches. Also I would have to be very careful not to damage the fragile part of the translite. Also, the mirror is heavily scratched. I was thinking about getting a nice CPR backglass. But then I read there's lots of issues. Colors and details not right and the glass too thick. But it seems it's not the same with every game. Does anyone have experience with the Taxi CPR backglass?
Thanks for the help!
I have the cpr backglass. I got it purely so the collar matched the cuffs as I only had a Lola translite but a Marylin playfield.
It’s not the best with its soft focus appearance and washed out colours and the mirroring isn’t great. But that said it’s better than nothing and you’d only really notice the difference if you had a original side by side. If your translite is trashed, go for it or try and source a translite. Not sure how easy that is.
My cpr glass is also as everyone else describes, I always describe it as being in soft focus. It was the first batch a few years ago. It’s either that or have my Lola translite with Marylin playfield. Not sure what’s worse to be fair
Quoted from monkfe:trying to decide on a color for my Taxi rehag ( for the rails and such) Can you that have done your machines over post some Taxi porn for me ...thanks...
Black in my opinion looks great
Quoted from monkfe:What have you guys done to remove the yellowing on the topper? I've had mine sitting in hydrogen peroxide for the last two days in the sun and it does't seem to have done anything.
Not done it personally but I’ve heard of good results by biting the bullet and removing the decal and spraying the topper white and putting a new decal on.
Yours was a Lola game but has a Marylin overlay. Which roms does it have (does it say Lola on the display when you collect her)
Quoted from Eddy_BE:What is the use of this small post? If any
[quoted image]
If an air ball sent it rolling down the side of the rail it would hit that and drop into the shooter lane instead of wedging between the glass and getting stuck……. I think
Quoted from RCW:What’s the best guess at the make and model of the car on the side of Taxi’s cabinet?
A 56 Chevy Bel Air?? Coming from a Brit I’d take that with a pinch of salt.
Quoted from The_Great_Man:I am sure this has been fully covered. My machine has Lola on the playfield and backglass but the displays show Marilyn. Is the only way to fix this by getting an upgraded ROM.
Hey mate. Yes it’s a rom swap. I had to do it to mine.
I upgraded my flippers yesterday to later Wpc hardware. Holy crap. What a difference. Should’ve done it years ago. Left ramps a dream now. I recommend it highly.
Quoted from HighSpeed1:What exactly did you replace, part#'s?
So I replaced the base plates, end stops, and linkages and springs. As mentioned above it could just be the springs which make the difference. I can’t comment on that. The newer linkages have the metal tab on them to accommodate the spring and I think you’ll need the Wpc eos bracket as well to attach the spring to.
Quoted from slochar:It's more because you just replaced all the parts that were worn with new ones.
nah, they were all new and fresh after a restore. The new parts made a big difference
