My taxi cab is beat too. I will likely decal it next winter.
The thing that is nice is that there isn’t any prior decal removal. That’s the biggest pain in the ass step when it comes to restoring a cab.
As a clue perhaps to the issue: the bottom row on the original display was completely out. That’s the reason I bought the new Pinscore.

It's perfect...but it's missing one thing! An MRS for that spinout bowl!!!

Looks great!
Was your cab always that nice? Or did you have to decal it? Stencils?
I'm wanting to do my cab. My pf is restored and cleared. Just need the cab to follow suit.

You’ve convinced me the hardtop is good enough! I wasn’t sure how it would look over the inserts but I can’t really tell a difference, does it play the same as a new playfield would?
Quoted from Budman:What type LED’s did you use in the GI’s , backbox and inserts and how did you light the bumper caps?
Frosted comet bright whites, pop caps have the comet pinball wing pop bumper inserts
Quoted from Kerry_Richard:Did you forget to peel off the protection film.... see around legs?
I peeled the film last!! I put legs on for some photos and there was a little residual there, has since been removed, you can see my Stargate reflection on the side of it.. they look good..
Quoted from Jmckune:You’ve convinced me the hardtop is good enough! I wasn’t sure how it would look over the inserts but I can’t really tell a difference, does it play the same as a new playfield would?
It plays great, I'm not sure why some folks don't like it, the only difference really is the vibration of the ball for me, plays fast and straight and I can makes the ramps pretty easily..
It definitely makes a strong case for itself. $3xx dollars vs $999 seems like a no brainer when they at least both seem to do a very similar job with the cheaper one requiring much less work
Quoted from pacman11:Pinball life sells this 3bank opto wonder if this will work to replace the Taxi one.. Anyone know?[quoted image]
Email them. They’ll know.
I had to come up out of the gameroom for fear of having a stroke. Three times in one game I had the jackpot lit(4,000,000) and couldn’t hit the shot. For you guys who have been around the hobby longer, is there a more suspenseful / stressful shot than this one?
Bride of pinbot billion shot. ^. The work to even get to that point isn’t easy, and there’s a timer on it too.
In other news look what I was able to be hooked up with!!

Edit: for those who don’t know what it is. It’s the unobtainable Taxi Topper PCB board. With permission goldpins has allowed me to post that he is willing to help anyone else who may have the problem of not having a lamp board and be in need of one. Reach out to him for more info.

Thanks, I’ll know to avoid that one.... my ticker can’t take it.

How about when you light it and then your ball flops out of the saucer because you hit it too hard? So frustrating. I really need to figure out a mod to keep that from happening.
I'm searching for a couple of leftover Taxi insert decals you may have sitting around. I only need a few (for example, "C", "Joyride" and "Raise Jackpot"), and would rather not buy an entire sheet of decals for $60 just to use a few. I'm willing to pay of course. Thanks!
Hey guys I need a couple of pictures-
Wiring for roller over switches that spell CAB at top.
Wiring for both drop targets Pinbot and Marylin.
Thanks in advance!

Nope. Bought a new one and no change. Ryan from Marco’s is on it and we’ll get it figured out. I’m thinking it may be cold solder on the MPU. But I’m a non tech newbi to System 11’s so just guessing

That was next step cold joints I’d reflow all your boards and pit new cap kits in
Trying to figure out if these drops targets are wired wrong. Weird issue only Lola drop targets work, when Pinbot targets are up. but when Pinbot drops targets are down nothing works.. everything works in test mode..

Problem solved, I found that a light was touching a diode on the return lane switch causing a bunch of weird problems.
Finishing up a hardtop install, and realizing I SHOULD have taken a few more pics. I'm at work now, but when I get home, I need to figure out how the piece that I believe goes under the bowl gets installed. It's red like the spiral ramp and looks like it somehow mates up underneath the bowl. Does anyone have a pic or can explain how that piece gets installed?
Does anyone have a list of all the lamps used in Taxi? I have a basket case game (just a bunch of parts in a box and a cabinet) that I bought about 10 years ago. I have decided to put back since I have nothing better to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's an excel spreadsheet i made when i was doing my restore. I can't tell you whether or not it's accurate. I was doing color matched LEDs for the inserts, so ignore the color stuff if that's not your thing. Hope this helps kastawaykid

Quoted from ChrisPINk25:jmckune where'd you get the light board for the topper?
goldpins made it for me, he said he has a few more.
Quoted from Jmckune:Just about to attach it and fire it up, wanted to draw just a little extra attention to this thing since it was hard to acquire so I put some super flashers in vs regular ones. Those flashes WILL be noticed![quoted image]
Let's see it!!!
My topper has the light board but was yellowed and faded really bad. I took the cheap route and hit it with a glossy white spray paint inside and out. Looks great with LEDS.

It might be a few days before I actually get to the “Fire it up” part. Working on finishing my first home and Taxi is standing on its back in my garage currently. Just got to wait for the floors to harden enough so I can safely move stuff over them without causing damage. Putting baseboard up meanwhile.

One thing left to do is to fix the lower row of displays. What's the current consensus on what's best? Rottendog? X-Pin? Pinscore? Any cheaper alternatives out there?
Thanks!

Looking good! I've been happy with X-Pin.

Recbar has Pinscore in everything they own, they look quite nice.

I've always resisted LED alphanumeric displays for the sole reason that I hate seeing the lighter non-illuminated segments, but after seeing examples at a few shows last year, x-pin has a grey "gel" that covers them to give them a more original look to the gas plasma displays. If I HAD to go LED, that would be the route I'd take.
I'm running rottendog LED.. Plasma is best for alphanumeric pins IMO. I actually like the look of an LCD colorDMD (even without the colors) over plasma.

Thanks! I looked a little into x-pin, and unfortunately nobody seems to have any in stock.

The Pinscore setup is looking better to me as they seem to be the only ones available.

This was a concern to me as well. I don't care for the look of them unlit either, but was planning on experimenting using a little window tint to darken them up when not lit.
Has there been any issues with the Jackpot not displaying properly with any of these? I remember reading something about it here some time ago.
Another option I see if that Steve at PBR sells replacement glass for these displays. It's a little steep in price, but still an option as I only have one glass out.
Quoted from Kneissl:I'm running rottendog LED.. Plasma is best for alphanumeric pins IMO.
This is another that seems to be out of stock everywhere. I too love the look of plasma over LED's, but it looks like it's going to be I'll be using only what's available. All of our other sys 9 & 11 games still have their plasma displays, and we're going to try to keep it that way.
Thanks for all your input!
