Taxi has been around for about a month now. The flippers "appear" to have been rebuilt by the previous owner. While they have enough power to make the ramp shots just fine, they seem a bit mushy. I cant hear the crack of the coil stop like I do on my Earthshaker.
Hard to explain, but I feel.they could be more responsive. I'm debating on doing another complete rebuild my way.
Thoughts?

If they are original flipper bracket (with the spring on the coil), upgrading to the newer WPC with “external” spring will give it more snap.

But yep, worth taking a look at the coil stops.

Thanks. I was actually considering switching to external springs. It does seem like the conical ones around the plunger bind up a bit.

New to the club. Mine has seen better days but is in the process of being deep cleaned. I would love to do a hardtop but other than paint being faded its not in that bad of shape. I have to source the missing displays, and luckily I found both ramps from other owners because the flashers locked on and melted both of them.

Wish me luck!

Deep cleaned, added new Titan rubber, new LED displays, and new ramps. I found a hackjob in the backbox and had to replace a few connectors on the interconnect board. I got new insert decals included with the game but havent decided if I want to put them on or not.

Shes running great again! I seen that a true mirrored glass is going to be available soon. Hopefully that is still in the works. I would much rather have Marilyn on the backglass to match my playfield.

Now to put my time into the F14 restoration I have been sleeping on.

CPR released a mirrored glass about 5 years ago. I have one. The colours aren’t great on it though. Almost looks a little “soft focus” if that makes sense. Still nice though. And as I had a CPR playfield I needed a Marylin glass to match the pf.

Welp... fried some transistors on my Aux driver board today. Anyone have a schematic showing what components these larger transistors supply?

Im gonna try to toss new parts in it and see what happens. But I may eventually go with the Xpin AUX board that has upgraded MOSFET tech for the occasional faults that plague the old original boards.

If anyone is interested in buying the original AUX board (D-12247-566) please PM me.

The transistors are Tip36C, the resistors are 220ohm, 1/4 watt. Drawing is attached.

I believe Q1-Q4 are for the displays, but I am not certain, just going from this drawing of the aux board since those transistors are not shown as solenoid drivers.

That's the schematic for the power supply, not the aux driver... The aux driver board schematic looks like this:

I have just installed a Hard Top on my Taxi and I have a question about functionality. I have tons of hours into going through trying to get this think 100% functional.

After the ball drops from the Spin Out ramp, it falls into a switch and the kicker throws it into the top of the playfield.

QUESTION: I see a flasher to the left of the kickout which doesn't seem to do anything? Also, is there supposed to be a sound played when the ball is kicking to the top of the three lanes?

Thanks!

For future reference, the who manual is available as a pdf on ipdb.org. It's a great resource and has pretty much every non-Gottlieb I've ever looked for.

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

QUESTION: I see a flasher to the left of the kickout which doesn't seem to do anything?

I found two bulb inconsistencies between my game and the game manual. The manual specs two #89 bulbs in the upper right corner of the playfield for the Spinout (solenoid #8C). My game has one #89 in the upper right corner of the playfield which is accessible from under the playfield. The other bulb on the circuit is a #906 which is to the right of the Gorbi orbit and only accessible with much playfield disassembly. The manual specs one #89 bulb at the Joyride insert (solenoid #16). My game has no flashlamp at the insert. Instead my game has one #89 in the upper left corner of the playfield which is accessible from under the playfield. And there's another #906 bulb on the circuit which is to the left of the Joyride kickout and only accessible with much playfield disassembly. Or in other words, the Joyride #89/#906 combo on the left mirrors the Spinout #89/#906 combo on the right.

Just joined the club! IMG_20190723_205644 (resized).jpgIMG_20190723_205644 (resized).jpg

A few issues I'm trying to sort out:

1. the spin out kicker is really weak sometimes. Often the ball doesn't make it out until the second try. Mech seems fine when I operate it manually.Anyone had something like that?

2. On my beaten up left ramp, there's a flap near the entrance that looks like it should be guiding the ball up, but it doesn't quite reach the side wall of the ramp. Is the ramp supposed to extend down further? Anyone repaired something similar if so?IMG_20190723_211207 (resized).jpgIMG_20190723_211207 (resized).jpg

3. My topper flashers (tied to left and right ramp flashers) are really dim. You can barely even tell they're flashing in coil test. If I remove one of the two bulbs in the topper for either side, the other gets much brighter, as does the ramp flasher.

2. Your ramp sidewall is broken off/missing. Reproductions are available but I do not know current stock.

3. Might not have the correct lamps installed. Off the top of my head, if its a wedge base it should probably be a 906; if its a bayonet base it should probably be a 89. Double check the correct lamps with the manual.

1. You will have to take the mech apart and look for worn/broken parts. Sometimes just cleaning up the moving parts and replacing the coil sleeve is all that it takes.

#1519 4 years ago

I got a new left ramp from Starship Fantasy a few months ago.

#1520 4 years ago

Congrats on the Taxi Zac. I have one I am putting a playfield in. I bought all new ramps, I'll check the condition of the original, might be a good replacement for you.

They're 906's. I replaced them all with new ones and it made no difference.

I had something like this happen after i completely rebuilt my Taxi. For me, it was that the switch arm (that goes above the playfield) for that kicker was making contact too early with the ball, so the kick happened before the ball was settled. You can adjust from the underside. Give that a try.

It's got to be a prototype with the "X" in the SN and that blue area. Is that a blue gradient to gray? Plus the text on a production Taxi normally reads "Airport Rides Advance Lit Value" vs. your "Scenic Route...". What color are the boards?

Sadly about to leave the club, gave mine the full resto, love it dearly, but just don’t have the space any more with an influx of more pin projects.

Anybody know where I can get a replacement for the Gorbie gate wire. Mine was missing when I got it. I have Marco has several but not this one. I tried to fabricate it myself, but without a reference I'm sure some of the measurements and bends are off. It works going in but if a slow ball rolls back down it hangs and the ball gets stuck. Picture for reference. I borrowed your picture Jerrybest, I hope you don't mind.

Anyone know where to get a left ramp decal? Or have a spare?

#1536 4 years ago
Quoted from Jerrybest:

What does this number on my playfield mean number 10?[quoted image]

It's the serial number of the playfield. First three digits are the model number (553 for taxi) and then the rest is the serial. I think X indicates it's a prototype. If there was an 'I' would be an International/exported game (Europe, Australia, etc),

See https://www.ipsnd.net/View.aspx?id=2505 for pictures of other Taxi serials.

Anyone in the northeast US have a nice taxi with a new hardtop, playfield, or clear coat for sale? Theirs one for sale but has some ghosting, decal issues under clearcoat and not sure.
