A friend from out of state has a Target Alpha with issues involving the "Players Can Play" lamps and drop targets not resetting. I have cut and pasted his questions here:

1. When I push the credit button all reels reset and player number 1 on the backlight comes on as well as player 4. When I push the credit button again the credit wheel registers and the player 4 light goes out. The player 2 light does not come on. Likewise if I press the credit button two more times. The credit wheel decrements but player 3 and 4 do not light.

2. After the ball is played the drop down target scores do not register and the targets do not reset for the next player (in multi-player) or second ball in single player.

For #2, I advised him to check all DT's to make sure that they are all closed or open with all targets down, and to check for voltage at the DT reset coils. I can't remember, are the DT reset coils on a TA running on AC or DC? And what voltage?

Thanks,

Alan

These lights are controlled by the disk and wiper on the Coin unit, which is on the bottom board near the chimes and right flipper button.

If the drop targets reset at the beginning of a game but not between players or balls, check the normally open switch on the Add Player unit relay (P) that has a green wire on one terminal and a brown wire on the other terminal. Be careful because this circuit runs on 120 volts

I’ve had similar problems lately. Check that the trough switch is working where the ball is launched to the shooter. It triggers going to next player and next ball.

Also check that the DX interlock is releasing during first ball of game if you press a 10 or 100 score. I had problems with the switch in that relay stack that permits the signal to go to the releasing coil on the bottom of the DX assembly. With the playfield up, I could see the first ball interlock set during start up, but wouldn’t release after pressing a 10 or 100 target.

Does it keep scoring on the playfield, but won’t score bonus and reset Targets ? It may think it’s still in ball 1, so doesn’t reset targets or advance player or ball.

If there are more symptoms, Or details on what works and what doesn’t, let us know. It can help pinpoint possibilities.

don't have this machine but have a solar city which is a two player version. Any time I have a situation where the wrong player score lights up the first thing I suspect is the player unit switches or cam alignment on the player unit . would take a hard look at it and step it manually and make sure that the player 1 2 3 and 4 switch stacks are opening and closing when they are supposed to
