I am not sure if this has been answered but could use some help: (sega/whitestar)
1. If I put multiple sound files in a folder, it will effectively randomize the play?
2. if so, do the sound file names matter?

I am converting some mp3s to .wav, their file size went from 5MB to 40. Is this a problem for initial loading? I guess I could clip the files.
Also when I loaded the initial sound files from the pinsound forums, it took probably close to 5 mins to load/verify the files on the pin Is this normal. Any other tips other than clipping my files as much as I can?
This is for goldeneye
Thank you, I have been using audacity. Just ran the normalization and conversion macro. Should be able to start loading up some clips and music tonight
Quoted from DeathHimself:Not sure the game your doing but if there are any sound clips from video/movie you can use Audacity to capture the sound directly from which ever video player your using as well, then of course edit it the way you like.
Thats what I have been doing following the guide listed here.
The only thing I can't figure out - Pinsound only seems to like my mix if it is loaded from the unzipped file from a fresh usb. If I copy sound files over normally they don't play. I assumed they would work as long as they are wav? Am I missing something?
No, they are wav files.
The Pinsound forums have a goldeneye original mix. It’s already in wav. That extracts and loads to the game perfectly fine.
But when I start copying wav files directly to the USB it doesn’t like it.
Shouldn’t I just be able to copy them directly to my Pinsound USB?
The only way that seems to work is creating a zip of my mix and loading it.
Sorry for being a pain, also, I’ve been reading up just no luck
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:This makes no sense at all. You can copy WAV files directly to the USB whether you are copying an entirely new orchestration or if you are just overwriting or adding to an existing file in one of the folders. I've done it literally hundreds of times on two different games for years on all versions of firmware. PinSound wants a WAV file and it doesn't care how it was copied to the USB as long as it is in one of the orchestration folders. It has no way of knowing how a file was copied to the drive, and when it boots it basically indexes the folder structure every time.
You are rebooting your pin every time you remove the USB, copy a file to it, and re-insert it, right?
Yes, reboot every time. Thank you for the comment. Sounds like my board isn’t acting properly then. I’ll check my firmware and do an update and give it a go again.
If not I’ll reach out to the Pinsound folks
Okay so quick update, I did the latest firmware and everything is working as it should. Thanks Mr_Tantrum DeathHimself . Back to work mixing for me!
Okay so my pinsound board isn't picking up the updated files every time.
I'll drop new files on my usb here and there. Sometimes but not always when I boot the game it says "checking sound files"
If I swap out a few clips, do some reboots on the game, they will only start playing on the game if the "sound file check" starts.
Any suggestions?
My orchestration is going well but the music tracks seem a bit loud ever after normalization. I changed the global settings in pinstudio to reduce music and increase voice. Any other tips or suggestions?
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:What do you mean exactly?
Part of doing an orchestration sometimes is making your replacement clips about the same duration of the originals.
If I hit one switch with a sound effect or callout it will continue to play while another starts.
There are alot of 1 second callouts so making them the same duration for the orchestration is not ideal.

Says it will be in their next release.... I could follow up with pinsound?
Do you guys highly recommend the pinsound speaker kit? I have the stock sega speakers, they sound decent . I will probably throw in the pinsound ones just to know but wanted to hear your thoughts?
Quoted from DeathHimself:I wanted a pinsound board and shaker kit from them so I said what the hell and just ordered the complete kit for my machine. I can honestly tell you their speakers kicks ass, they sound great with very good bass drive with nice mid to high range too and clear audio. I'd recommend them especially if you are already ordering from them to save on the shipping and get it all at once.
This is pretty much what I did, Its sitting here but just going back and forth. I feel like I need to install it just to know even if it will come out eventually.
The music should benefit from upgraded speakers.
Thanks guys!
Quoted from pinballinreno:I wish pinsound studio would have a normalize all function.
This would be a literal game changer.
I also wish for VU meters.
You really need to know whats going on during playback.
How do you normalize right now?
I can't remember if it was on this thread but you can search .wav files , copy them to a drive. Normalize them all via macro. The tough part is writing everything back but I bet I could write a script for that.
Made a post about my mix! Thanks for your help!
