Just got back from Captain's Auction and was amazed by some of the hammer prices. I didn't write down exact just going by memory

15% buyer's premium and 9% sales tax

These prices were before the premium and tax

Routed monopoly not shopped $3000
Beat up Fish Tales no topper $1700
Big Hurt lots of wear in front of flippers on playfield $2400
Apollo 13 decent $3000

If you were there and have exact prices please post.

Was that a bidding card in your hand?

The machines didn't even have to boot!

No surprises there!

I had to work early so I didn't get to swing by like I usually do. What did the "nice", HH go for? (I remember o-din mentioning one in an earlier thread...)

#6 11 years ago

Wow....up up and up for prices. Nuts.

#7 11 years ago

Nuts.

More like "Pin-(beer)Goggles"...

Those are crazy.

Now I do not feel as bad for paying $2200 for a routed (but reasonably nice) WPT up here in the west coast of Canada

That has to be at least a 4K pin at this auction...

#13 11 years ago

anyone know what that blue computer space went for?? looked pretty nice from the pics.

i think there was a routed spidey for auction too.

Can't say 100% since I wasn't there but read on another site $1500.

Space Shuttle - $850 ($1054)
ROad Show - $2000 ($2480)
Pool Sharks - $900 ($1116)
Punchy the Clown (Alvin G.) - $700 ($868)

I used to see the same thing at motorcycle salvage auctions. That is why I got out of buying wrecked bikes.

#17 11 years ago

Those prices are clinically insane. I wonder if this is an example of the machines owner "buying" them (without penalty or fee) to re-list the same machines at the next auction. They do this when they are unhappy with the prices they think they will receive.

I would doubt it, because that would require two people (an owner and his friend) to drive up the price of every machine... why would an owner be unhappy with these prices and try to bid it up themselves at the last minute to avoid a sale?

#19 11 years ago

I think the biggest evidence that these people are stupid is that Space Shuttle sold for only a little more than Punchy the Clown.

or that either one sold, period!

Many auctions allow the owner to buy their own property without fees. They may see how an auction is going and shill it up. Happens from time to time.

Nobody commented on the condition of the shuttle here, and you can see my location...I'm assuming it was horrible....but have you seen how many people are looking for Shuttle games lately? Quite a few.

If you don't like the game...whatever, to each their own, but I think seeing one NOT sell would be wierd. I can see WHY Punchy sold...it's redemption. But it's not a full pinball game. =|

I'm not sure I've ever played it and I'm not sure it was working. Mine was a wiseass comment about the whole situation I observed yesterday. I like the auction because it gives me a chance to sample many games that I don't normally see, but it was like hardly anything seemed playable yesterday!

those arent auction prices, those are retail! lol you sure they werent all buybacks?

#26 11 years ago

Hmmm...how can this possibly be? We have seriously high prices, but we don't have GREED on the part of the seller! All we have are willing buyers to blame.

#27 11 years ago

3720 for monopoly takes the cake of ridiculousness. The only decent deal was Spiderman (assuming that it's the Stern one, lord help us all of it was the older one, lol)

Example - I sold my WWF-RR like a 3 weeks ago for less than half that stupid price!

#28 11 years ago

I have a feeling that MANY of these are sellers buying their own machines back. I have seen a few of these machines listed over and over. It would be interesting to know exactly how many. If they are legit prices, I need to start selling here!

#29 11 years ago
Quoted from dapperdan24:

Stay tuned, the next auction is only a couple months away!

#30 11 years ago

o-din, did I meet you at a Captain's auction, maybe 3 or so back? It was the only one I have actually attended. That would have to have been before you started buying up all the machines in SoCal

#31 11 years ago
Quoted from dapperdan24:

Could have been, my first auction was in August, 108 degrees or so. I picked up a couple old school arcade games.

#32 11 years ago

The Apollo 13 was mine, and definitely not a buyback. I was expecting it to go for 1800 or so.

Quoted from Cruster:

You won! I think I hit the last 13 ball multiball on it before the gavel came down!

#34 11 years ago

seriously people, high prices mean they *weren't* buy backs. You buy back when stuff goes for too cheap, not when stuff goes too high.

#35 11 years ago

ButtonMash gets it right!!!!! Ding Ding Ding!!!!!!

The thought of buybacks at these numbers reminds me of a Pollock joke.

#36 11 years ago

We were thinking shilling was goin on.

Apollo 13 was even craziedr considering it is worth far less!

Someone told me smoke was coming out of the backbox before bidding started- Houston, we have a problem!

#40 11 years ago

Seemed like WH20 was a good deal.

#41 11 years ago

That is why I hate auctions. Shill bidding. Then the fees on top of fees. No deals seemed to be there.

You must have been smiling on the way home.
