I am about to order a Bestop Supertop for my CJ7. The only question is black denim or black crush. Probably go with black denim to go along with the seats.
Here's a coupe of pics from my route operator technician days. A co-worker and two others were heading home after bowling league night (yes, it was a big thing in the early '80's) when a mishap occurred. No, it didn't buff right out but it did get repaired. Cash repair deal since for some odd reason, his insurance wasn't paid up.
Nobody was badly injured, even the guy who kissed the windshield.
Alcohol may have been a factor.
IIRC, this was a '78 CJ7. It was sort of drivable even in this condition. Those small V-8's were pretty solid.
Quoted from MrBally:Those small V-8's were pretty solid.
Still are. I could write a whole book on the AMC V-8.

Damn, 13 second 1/4 mile time in a stock Jeep? Even if it's a Fiat, wow
Quoted from dasvis:Damn, 13 second 1/4 mile time in a stock Jeep? Even if it's a Fiat, wow
Its probably impractical, but I am tempted. I love my '16 Wrangler Unlimited. . . but miss the big engine feel I had in the '70 Chevelle of my youth. I wonder how much my insurance costs would jump?
A Hagerty Article on the 392 Rubicon:

Starting in on the steering. Going to be a hell of a lot easier with the engine out. Removed drag link & bellcrank. Pitman arm ball & bellcrank ball both worn badly. Steering gear coming out for rebuild as soon as I can get the steering wheel off. It's really stuck on there - have a special puller ordered for the job. Spent the last couple of days working on removing the bellcrank pivot pin. Heated the bejesus out of it with my torch & finally had some success getting the lock pin for the pivot to move.
Quoted from dasvis:Steering gear coming out for rebuild as soon as I can get the steering wheel off. It's really stuck on there -
I remember when I rebuilt the steering box on my CJ2A years ago it wasn't the best to begin with, but parts were readily available as were complete replacement units. They did get better as the years went on.
The Bestop for mine is backordered, but they say they should have more by the end of the month. No hurry on my end. In the meantime, I've got these hard doors that it came with, but they did not match, so I stripped them down, and painted them black, which should look OK with the new top. I also just received another order from Quadratec that includes all the door seals and a new windshield cowl seal, so this should keep me busy for a while.
I sold the hardtop last week for a decent price as I never used one on my last CJ, but a soft top with the hard doors worked just fine, so that is how I will roll during these long So Cal winters. Actually, we are still where no top is needed at all. Where is all that rain? lol.

Some of my dad's company swag that still comes in handy. He would be proud.
This crew is definitely smarter at this stuff than me so here’s a question. I just replaced my headlight bulbs with the LEDs in the attached image. I’m now getting fogging on the lower half (in colder temps of course).
Anything I can do to prevent this?

I bet the led socket isn’t making good seal with the light housing, if you want to keep those leds then get a rubber gasket or use silicon/high temp caulk to seal on the gasket the led has.
I saw on r/Jeep someone had a Jeep neon made and it was pretty sweet!
09BD3DE2-5118-41D5-B61F-6502B52497AB (resized).jpegany prizes for the crappiest Jeep? got my ZJ several years ago for running Gambler 500 events, and it breaks in a new way every time i run one, but it's always limped it's way back home. well, except for that one time i took it to the parts store two miles from my house and the starter decided it was done.
5.2/NP249 with everything including axles stock except the 33's, 3" Procomp lift, and welded junk bumpers (front is made from Mercedes SUV nerf bars) which it came with, and the rattle-can paint job which took forever due to the stupid stripes.
like i needed another expensive hobby; at least with pinball i operate to help cover expenses.

Mid century... but not so modern. lol. I guess if anything good has come out of this pandemic is there has been less wear and tear on my screen door. haha
Speaking of doors, I finished up the Jeep ones last week and was super impressed with the Fairchild Industries replacement seals I got from Quadratec as they all fit and worked perfect. There were other brands available, but those were as good as you are going to get. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.
Quoted from lurch:Do GWs count?
Been working on this one for a bit. Just started on carpet this weekend. Next up dash, headliner, and wood vinyl. Neverending leaks too!

What an excellent vehicle! You better finish that thing.I like the lines of this Series.

You need to get rid of those square headlights and upgrade the grill on that thing. It can be done. Ask me how I know...

What year is she?
Nice work. I rebuilt a few full size Jeeps. That is a stock photo of a 1963. The body remained basically the same until 1991. There are some differences though beyond the trim. The chassis changed in about 1974, and the AMC V-8 had already become standard. Same 360 as yours.
Have fun!
Quoted from schudel5:It's never too cold out.
While I sit here waiting for my soft top to arrive. lol.
I like the K02s, especially when the raised white letters are showing. You happy with them? Mind if I ask what size wheel/tire?

These are just the stock 33”. I too love the OWL, just gives it an ‘80s retro feel.

Sorry for the dumb questions, so this is a 17 inch wheel? Is the Stock 33 a 295 or 285?

All good! 285 and 17 inch, yes.
From Bestop-
"Thank you for shopping with us. We thought you'd like to know that we shipped the following items. Your order is on its way and can no longer be changed."
Finally! I may have to go over the install when it gets here. Or, it may be enough work as it is.
Quoted from o-din:I'd like to say it was easy, but it wasn't. [quoted image]
Nice, what’s the plan for the diamond plate now? I’d rip enough off the top edge (3/4”-1”?) for the top to work and reinstall
Quoted from JayDee:Nice, what’s the plan for the diamond plate now? I’d rip enough off the top edge (3/4”-1”?) for the top to work and reinstall
1/4 inch should do it. It wasn't that there wasn't a gap, it's just that it stuck out so the flat plastic would not go into the channel.
I figured I better quit yesterday and start fresh this morning and just remove it so I didn't do any real damage.
Good idea to do this on a sunny day, because stretching it to fit and getting all the zippers started can be real taxing. Making the doors so they will shut is also another adventure. If you think you can just follow the instructions and make it work, I've got news for you.
Well I was told to check out this sub forum , so here I am . I just recently joined the club !!!! I’ve had a lot of cars and I have to say this one ranks up there with just a blast to own and drive . I have to agree I picked this one up at the end of last year and absolutely love it. Just realized I never posted a pic in this thread yet. Waiting for some nice weather here in Illinois to get the top off and get the full Jeep experience.
Gladiator (resized).jpgIt must be Gladiator Season.
My JK has been a blast to drive for the last six years or so -- hauled it fair share of pins too. Been wanting a Gladiator since they came out and recently was able to find the one I was looking for. . . perfect color (for me) and everything.
So far its been everything I hoped it would be! (Except for the push button start and auto-engine stop features that is. )
I hate the auto start/stop as well, mine stopped working shortly after I got the truck and It was great. Then I took it in for the first oil change and they fixed it. At least there is a button to disable it

auto start stop sucks sooo bad. On my wifes explorer, I ended up getting this and it has worked great.

In the super cold winter, it may of not worked when starting 1st time in the morning but its been fine every other time.
1978 Jeep J10 Pickup. Got it a couple years back from the original owner with every piece of paperwork that ever came with it. Interior is all original and I'm keeping it as stock as possible. Had some rust issues in the bed fixed and repainted, that's the original color believe it or not. Still had the AMC paint codes from the purchase papers.

Anyone else with the JL have steering that feels loose and always needing feedback? I took it into the dealership and they replaced a gear per manufactures bulletin. That helped a little, but it’s still very squirrely.
Wow its been awhile since I checked in. Lots of nice rigs here. The wife join the club about a week ago. She now has a HyperGreen 2016 Rubicon Hard Rock. Now we have twice the memories to make and twice the maintenance. She's already going crazy with mod lists. I told her it takes time to make your build. Looking for a soft top already. Got some mirrors for when the doors are off and a sun shade.
