The gold roms have "cousin its hideout" extras where you can get "free" points or extra balls randomly in some of the mansion rooms.
If you like tournament mode or are a tournament player then the regular roms are better since there's no "cousin it hideout" randomness. Otherwise the gold roms are a fun change of pace.
