I am doing a complete The Addams Family Restoration. I've got a brand new cabinet, new play field and will be replacing almost all of the playfield parts. I will document it along the way. So far I have a beautiful TAF playfield that Ron Kruzman clear coated for me Thx! I got it setup in the rotisserie and started the initial transfer of components. I moved the lighting board and along the way will be replacing every bulb with CoinTaker Premium Non-Ghosting bulbs! This will be beautiful when done. I will update weekly as I make progress.

I might suggest you start on the top and install the first layer....posts, ball guides, pop bumpers, etc. If Ron has cleared it, you'll need to drill out many of the through holes. Lots easier if there's nothing on the bottom.

#3 7 years ago

I agree with Bryan! Get the first layer topside done then bottom and then finish top

#4 7 years ago

Thanks guys! I will rotate and work on the top

CoinTaker Premium Non-Ghosting bulbs

I'd suggest going with the regular led's and get the LEDocd from Herg. It looks very good on this game

Quick update on progress, it's been slow going since I had some business travel last week. So far I've managed to install the top side of the pop bumpers, I think I got the colors in the right place. I transferred the switches from the old graveyard ball eject onto a new one and installed it. Got all the cliffy's and some posts installed around the grave yard. The top side of the sling shots are installed. All 4 flippers have been rebuilt and installed.

Before going any farther, put the wire ball guides in. You'll need to predrill the holes. This is usually the step right after you put in the tee nuts. (You've got some of these that need to be put on the backside as well).

#8 7 years ago

I do the t-nuts as I go, as I remove parts from the old to the new. I've been avoiding the ball guides but leaving room so I can get to them when I decide to tackle that.

#9 7 years ago

Are you pounding the t-nuts in or drawing them in from the other side with whatever mounts to the t-nut?

#10 7 years ago

I try to gently draw them in the from front, using a large 1" diameter rubber washer followed by a large metal washer to put less pressure on the clear coat.

#11 7 years ago

Where did you find a new TAF Playfield? I missed the sign up for a CPR Playfield and have been looking for a replacement for mine.

#12 7 years ago

Found it on a for sale ad here on pinside earlier this year, then sent it off to Ron Kruzman to be clear coated. It's beautiful, going to look amazing when its all done. I am doing a brand new cabinet too. Gonna be mint

#13 7 years ago

I always miss the good stuff. Good luck with the restoration. I'm in the middle of a TOTAN myself.

Are you guys using the existing T-nuts, the existing T-nuts but after having straightened the legs, or new T-nuts?

A mix of new and old, depends on the condition of each one.

New is the way to go. It's not worth the effort to take the old ones out, since they're cheap to buy. Plus, you get a nice new shiny tee nut to put in your new pf, rather that a used one.

#17 7 years ago

Making good progress! Most of the top of the playfield is done. Just need to install the new ramp. The bottom side is coming along nicely, just a few more major components to install and then it'll be time to migrate the wire harness with the switches and remaining lighting.

Sure hope I've got this spaghetti labeled well enough! The old TAF playfield is almost stripped down, will send it off to HSA for a Stage 2 restoration.

Lots done! The entire top is done! The bottom has all the major components installed. The next step is to move the wire harness over and start installing the remaining lights, switches and solder to all the coils.

Whew, this project has been going on almost a year! We moved to a new house back in April so there has been a lot going on that kept me from this project. Finally making some good progress again and it's almost done! New cabinet is almost ready to go, boards and wire harness have been moved over. The he play field is finally 100% done and ready to go into the cabinet. Perhaps this weekend will see this project to completion!

Question, what board is this on the on the side of the head? I recognized the LED OCD board in another picture but I'm not familiar with this other board.

Ah, thanks.

Nice work btw.

Got the playfield into the cabinet today and fired it up! The smoke stayed inside so thats good! I do have a little debugging to do. 7 lights are not working and the flippers are acting odd. So I'll have to work through those issues before it's ready to play!
