It's been a while since I payed attention to Arnold so I thought I'd dress him up a little. While I took off the pop caps to put Comets LED rings in I looked at the game and started thinking how cool it would be to light up the shooter ramp entrance to the subway that goes behind the playfield backboard. Didn't look to difficult, 6 wood screws and one switch to take off so I went to it. Took about 20 min. to take off and another hour to put 2 Comet 6.3v, 7 led strips on and another 20min. to re-assemble. The hardest part was deciding what color strips to put in the subway, I chose a red for the subway entrance and a blue for subway exit. Total time: approx. 2 hours...total $: about $10. Was it worth it: You bet.
Here's how I did it,
Started off by removing the switch from the underside of the subway,
this is what the subway looks like out of the game, entrance on the right and exit on the left,
I drilled a hole in the top of the subway for the led strip wires to exit and covered the hole with electrical tape on both sides to act as a grommet so the wires weren't rubbing on metal,
then disconnected the wire leads from the led strip plug so the wires made the smallest hole in the tape grommet,
once through I inserted the wires back into the plug and
connected the alligator clips.
Here is the finished red led subway entrance.
The blue subway exit strip went faster because I didn't have drill a hole for the wires, they exited the hole that was there for the coil activated stop post. The 7 led strip was exactly the right length to fit in this location.
Here's what the finished inside assembly looks like and
this is what the outside looks like.
I didn't want the wires coming loose so I taped them down real good.

Reassembled everything, clipped the alligator clips to 2 GI bulbs that were right there, turned on the game and BAM....it worked. As usual I can't get a good picture of the color but man does it look nice, just like I had envisioned it.

I'm sure I could have gotten real fancy using 12v strips and tied them into a flasher or something but I wanted something that would stay on all the time and use GI power and Comets 6.3v, 7 led strips fit the bill perfectly. But I do have "another" idea in mind to talk to Art about....he's going to shoot me.
