What about the other side? You did not need to remove any clear coat? For ball guide etc.

I have tried the same but grey looks very off when printing on laser color.

Did you use laser color or injekt printer? When I printed mine on a colorlaser printer the grey looked like turd.

Have you asked the of manufacturer about the the fault of the lane? Are all pf affected? What is he’s advice?
