Long time lurker first time posting. Bought a system 9 space shuttle from my aunt, they had issues with the machine and it’s sat unused for quite a few years. I took it back home, got it powered up, tossed fresh batteries on the board and went through the memory chip test using the diagnostic button. It always comes back as 0, it also will cycle through attract mode as it should. I confirmed that the game is set in free-play but it will still not start a game.

When the start button is pressed you hear a few of the solenoids fire but the thrower will not move the ball to the ball ramp release & the flippers are unresponsive. The only time the flippers work are when you run through the solenoid test.

Any ideas on where to start on trying to hammer out this issue? I grew up playing on this thing and would like my kids to be able to experience it as well.

Thanks in advance for any help

Silly question, you have 3 balls installed?

Sounds like the machine is doing a ball search. Either a ball is missing or one of the rollover switches in the ball through is not closing. The game will not start unless all 3 ball through rollover switches are closed.

When you say the roll over switch are you referencing the micro switch at the center of the chute?

Yes!

IPDB has the manual available to download. Download the manual and perform a switch test. You should be able to determine which micro switch is acting up.

Look at the switch location diagram on Page 19.
Switches 10,11, and 12 must read closed or the game will not start as it will think a ball is missing.
Those switches are hidden under the apron, in the ball trough area.

Thanks for the info!! Pulled the glass out and manually placed the balls into the trough and the game boots as it should!! Feels awesome to re-live some childhood memories playing this thing. Only thing it does now is once the ball falls into the out hole it will not push them towards the ball ramp. The solenoid clicks during the test but not during game play
