I am getting ready to dig into a long-term refurb project on a newly acquired Williams Sorcerer (1985, System 9) and have been dipping my toes into learning very basic electronics/circuits in preparation for my first soldering job; rebuilding the flippers is square one. This is my first game and I have no background in electronics, so a lot of this is brand new to me. I find it fascinating however and am eager to learn as I plan this project out further.
Sorcerer's manual is easily accessible, however I am also looking for a more broad guide on repairing pinball machines in general while also avoiding any information that might cloud my progress at the moment ie: tech related to EMs, later SS games etc.
I notice there are Williams-licensed guides/manuals for System 3-7, System 11+, but I haven't seen a single piece of documentation specifying System 9 tech outside of a test-board manual, which I don't believe would apply to what I am trying to do. My assumption is that this is due to the fact that only four games were made for this board and that it sort of served as a "bridge system" in some ways (though I don't really understand the how/why/what of it, if anyone would care to clue me in on the history).
Essentially, I won't be able to physically dive into this project for a few weeks and would like to learn this machine inside and out while I prepare to get my hands dirty. Any resources that fit this bill would be highly appreciated!
p.s. Sorcerer refurb progress will be tracked in this thread for anyone who might be interested in following along: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/please-help-a-total-newbie-me-restore-a-1985-williams-sorcerer-
