Working on my first alpha numeric machine. I bought a Gottlieb Big House. I was told it worked fine prior to the MPU and the driver boards being removed. I purchase a new swemmer MPU and rottendog driver board. I installed both this evening and eagerly turned on the the pin. Everything lit up including the display and all of the playfield lights. The MPU board LED's were on, the driver board LED was on, and the sound board LED was on. There was also music playing. I attempted to start a game and it tried to reset, however one of the slingshot coils continued to fire and it never kicked a ball into play. During this time the flippers worked and the playfied solinoids (bumpers, slings, etc) also seemed worked when activated.

I turned the machine off then turned it back on. This time I pressed the test switch and went through the test phases. The lamp test appeared to be fine, the coil test had coils 3, 4, and 7 not firing. I continued to move through the test mode by pressing the test mode button. I then turned the machine off.

Now.....when I turn the machine on I get nothing except a few lights on the playfied. The MPU LED's come on and the single LED on the driver board lights. However, the display is blank, the sound does not work, and no coils fire at all.

I've checked all the fuses and they are good. I have also removed the light ballast as recommended on the wiki site. I have turned it off and on several times and getting the same result.

I am completely lost and have no idea where to begin. I have very little knowledge and no experience in these types of machines. Any help/tips are much appreciated. Thanks...

I have a Schwemmer board I'll test tonight in big house. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm not entirely sure Swemmer and Rottendog are cross-compatible. I know/believe Ni-Wumpf and Rottendog are not compatible so maybe that is what I am thinking of. Though, you'd think Swemmer and Rottendog sHould work together as Swemmer's MPU is more of a reproductions and less of a redesign (as Ni-Wumpf's is).

I think that cross compatability issue was for System 1 RD and Ni boards.

OK...here's what I found.
The Schwemmer board someone sent me had a failed PROM1. The source that provided the ROM to my customer burned the 32K image into a 2716. Clearly that won't work.

Since Big House uses a 2732 PROM at the PROM1 position, you have to position a jumper located on the upper right side of the board in the 2732 position (vice 2716).

Check out the jumper. If you bought your MPU from K's Arcade, there is a chance the jumper isn't right.

Thanks. I found the jumper and it is in the 2732 position. I think I may have figured out a big mistake I made. I placed one of the proms in upside down. I did it after I got a "eprom error" message when running the test. I took the proms out and put them back in. I turned it on once before I changed it back. Is there a chance I destroyed the prom and that could be causing my new problem? I'm not an electronics guy but I have sense enough not to do that....I was in too much of a hurry.

Nearly 100% chance that ROM is dead.
The notches should be "up" but I can see how, with the 2764 ZIF socket pointing "down", that could happen.
Time to source a new ROM.

I contacted Ksarcade for new roms and they recommended I send the board back in to be checked as well. I'll report back as soon I as I receive the board back.
