System 80b mpu, early to late

I aquired a booting raven mpu that I'm planning on using in my bad Girls. I did the board updates to convert it to use 2732 rom as per pinwiki, but what it doesn't seem to touch on, is the later games used a normally open slam switch. The mpu is set-up for a normally closed switch. What is the mod to update the slam tilt warning. Mine is saying slam told closed and that's as far as it will go.

I am under impression that earlier sys 80 a used normally closed which caused issues. Later 80b did at some point switch to normally open. So in the lower corner of board by the driver - mpu connector area look for a solder bridge or other type of shorting mod.

Yes that is the case. The mod was never done on this cpu. The issue is, the mpu thinks it's supposed to see a closed slam switch, but the BG roms want to see an open switch. I'm just not sure what to change on the mpu to make it think there is supposed to be an open switch.

Previously I had one of the mypinballs mpu's installed that I ended up selling to an operator to get his raven up and running. He (mypinballs)put a jumper on his mpu to address this issue. In turn I got the dead raven mpu. (and ordered a new mypinballs, but it's gonna be a while) I have mostly repaired the old mpu, this is just the last issue I'm dealing with.

I hope that makes sense haha. I feel confused just re-reading it.

Hi Chris,

I'm aware of that mod for the normally closed switches, but I'm working on a bad girls with a normally open switch.

Cheers

Simply remove the slam switch mod that someone might have incorporated.
If the slam switch still shows closed, try removing J5 (lower edge of MPU, center). That connector provides the cabinet switches.
If the slam switch STILL shows closed, then there is a problem on the MPU board switch matrix.

Final update, after swapping z14-11 and swapping u4 I still couldn't figure it out. I was looking at the schematic, and down by the slam tilt ic, is a resistor and a cap. The raven board had a piece of wire where the cap was supposed to be. I snipped the wire and it came back to life.

That was a slam switch modification as outlined in the PinWiki.

Didn't look like the mod. Doesn't the mod bridge a couple traces? This was a jumper in pre-made holes. Sorry I'm not doubting you just trying to understand. According to the schematic there is supposed to be a .1mfd 50v cap in that spot.

That's an alternate method that I haven't documented in the PinWiki. It does the same thing. It connects Z26 pin 13 to ground, having the affect of permanently closing the slam switch.
