Ok so go figure the night the guy comes over to pick up my Force 2 it starts acting up. Rather than sell him a problem I told him i would fix it and call him when its running right. I really need some help here is what has been going on with it.

1.I had it on four about 4 hours and noticed when I went to play it the flippers started to feel weaker and weaker then I got this lovely smell of electrinics getting hot.I shut the game down let it cool down for a few hours turned it back on and it has run fine for weeks. So it seemed to me the longer it was on the weaker everything got. Power supply?

2.The last week or so the first game you play on it right after start up it wont feed you a second ball after your first drains. Then I rest the table and it seems to run fine but lets you have more than 3 balls (it is setup for 3 ball) in a game?

3. This just happened last night iot was up and running and all of the sudden the displays started lose lines. they also seemed to get brighter and dimmer like they were surging. the character lines would come back and then in a minute or to drop out again. Power supply?

The game is in factory form and has never been hacked. i didnt do the grounding mods because I was selling it. The large capacitor on the power supply is still the original and I was thinking that might be a big culpret in all of this. I apperciate any help I can get I need to get this fixed and sold so I can buy another pin that I have been really wanting. Thanks guys

If I were you, i would replace the cap at the very least. It's available at greatplainselectronics.com and is cheap.

While you're waiting for the cap to come in, do the grounds. It takes all of ten minutes.

Once those simple things are done, you have a good base to go on.

If this is the case then the first thing you need to do is the recommended sys80 grounding mods. Their not difficult if you have a good soldering iron. It requires an extra wire attached to each board and then (more importantly) the main grounds in the bottom of the cabinet. These games are notoriously bad for poor grounds.

The next step could be repin connectors. Another notorious problem with these

thanks guys I was thinking it was probably something simple. I will get those done this weekend

Right away, take one of the balls out, Force II is a two ball game. It sounds to me like you're having connector issues, possibly at the power supply board. Have the A2 connector pins had the solder re-flowed around them yet? These pins are prone to solder cracks around them and new solder is a "must do" along with the post about ground upgrades from Luckdogg420 and Prmailers.

Ok so I went to the great plains site to order that capacitor and I think this is the one I need:

Capacitor, 12,000uF, 25V, 85C
Computer Grade, Screw Terminal Electrolytic
Manufacturer: Richey Capacitor
Manufacturer Part Number: RCT123M025V3550B
Diameter: 35mm (1.375"), Height: 50mm (2")
RoHS compliant
For use on early sold state Gottlieb, Bally and Stern's

but then I pulled up the playfield and the one that is in the game is 6800UF 25v. As long as the votage is correct I know im ok there but I wasn't sure about the capacitience being so much larger is that an issue or am I looking at the completely wrong one. Also the orange cap that is currently in the game has no polarity markings I am pretty sure the green wire is negative since that seems to be tthe colors of the other grounds but I just want to be sure since I don't have a manual for this game.

I like to use 10,000 mfd but that cap should work.

If anyone has a link to a better cap I am all ears.

The higher capacitance is only an issue if it's WAY beyond what the bridge rectifier is capable of providing. I've seen it written that anything from 10k to 15k is acceptable so the listed 12k uF cap sounds just about perfect.

The ground upgrades only take about 1 hour and fix so many potential/real problems - it is almost a crime to send a pin out without doing them!
