Gottlieb Genesis

I finally solved my pop bumper problem and now other things are working.

The kicker holes underneath the 2 ramps are working.

The drop down targets don't reset during play. They do reset when the game is turned on though.

The pop bumpers aren't registering score.

I'm wondering if these all have something in common?

The only other thing I did was put different fuses in. The previous owner had 8amp fuses in where there should have been 2amps. I don't know why that would have done anything though.

If you could help point me in a direction to start I'd really appreciate it.

Great Game TR...
Start by entering switch test, and ensuring that each of the switches in question registers. For the Pop Bumper scoring switches, you'll need to manually push the rod/ring assembly down.

Don't file the switches. It will remove the gold flashing and make the switch unreliable.
Instead, drag a business card between the switches as you pinch the two sides together.

Biggest tip...don't mess about under the PF with the game turned on. You'll short something and blow the switch matrix.

Quoted from Turkey_Robinson:

Typical scenario if the switch matrix is borked. The MPU can reset the coil because the solenoid circuit/driver is good, but because it does not see that switches as being down when the targets are down, then it won't know it needs reset.

Repin the lower left connector on the MPU. It is the one directly under the playfield.

While at it, replace the IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) type pins with crimp on pins. No need to swap the housing.

If you want to spend a bit of time learning just how the switch matrix works and verify your wiring prior, open your manual to the switch matrix page. Look at the target bank switches, follow the Strobe and the Return wires back to that connector I referred to above. With power off, take that connector off and with an ohm meter on beep, put a lead on the corresponding return and one on the strobe. Now when you open and close that switch on the playfield you should get a beep.
