I've got a System 7 MPU that I installed a lithium battery holder on along with a CR2032 battery. After a week or so the game was booting into audit mode and I discovered the battery was completely dead. So I installed a new battery and had my DMM hooked up to it and could see the battery voltage decreasing. I replaced both D18 (1N5817) and D17 (1N4148) but that didn't fix it.

It seems that those two components are the only thing between the battery and pin 22 on the 5101, tho I see that trace also goes to pin 14 on the 4071.

Any ideas on what would be causing this?

The 5101 is a AMI S5101L1PC and the 4071 is a CD4071BE RCA 101. The diodes are both installed with the banded side towards the 5101 as they were originally. The glass cap next to the 5101 looks fine.

The battery voltage is dropping .001v every 8-10 seconds as measured right at the battery or on the banded side of the D17 (1N4148). I'm seeing 2.94v measured directly at the battery and 2.33v as measured at pin 22 of the 5101.

I pulled the 5101 and after doing this I saw no voltage drop on the battery. I installed a new 5101 and so far so good! I'll check it tomorrow morning and see how it's doing but I think that original 5101 was indeed bad.
